The Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2021

LANCASHIRE and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust celebrate National Apprenticeship Week to highlight the importance of alternative opportunities to help people develop into long term successful careers. Apprenticeships offer people with an alternative route into skilled employment and are a great way to earn whilst learning vital work experience. They are available to people of all ages making them a great option for anyone looking to change their career path, improve their skills and secure a new role or re-enter employment after taking time out. The Trust have had 58 Apprenticeship completions over the past year, and 40 of these completions were from staff aged 30 years or older. Undertaking an Apprenticeship at the Trust provides people with the chance to do what they believe in, whilst making a difference to the lives of the people of Lancashire and South Cumbria. Andrew Corns, 52, works as an Administrator for the Learning Disability Service at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust. He left School with no qualifications and back in 2010 he was given the opportunity to complete a Level 2 in Literacy and Numeracy. Since then, Andrew has gone on to complete a Level 3 and Level 4 Apprenticeship in Business and Administration.

Andrew said:- "Completing my Level 3 and Level 4 in Business and Administration has meant I could progress as an Administrator and it has massively helped me to develop the way I work and communicate with people. It has given me confidence to be professional in my job role because found my Level 4 difficult, but I enjoyed it very much and I felt proud to have completed it. My assignments equated to a total of 250,000 words over the 2 year Apprenticeship! If you are in your thirties and forties and have spent a long time out of education, an Apprenticeship can help you to improve your skills and knowledge in order to do your job and it improves your overall learning and development. I would never let age be a limit if you are wanting to further educate yourself."

Sefton lauded yet again for home provision

SEFTON Council have been praised by the Government for ensuring enough homes are being provided to meet local needs. 2021 is the 2nd year in succession the Local Authority have been recognised by central Government for passing the national Housing Delivery test. In 2020 741 homes were built and completed for suitable housing thanks in no small part to Sefton Council's Local Plan framework.

Cllr Daren Veidman, Sefton Council's Cabinet Member for Planning and Building Control, said:- "The Housing Delivery Test results are warmly welcomed. This goes to show that Sefton Council's Local Plan is providing the homes for local people that are needed. Despite the national lockdown we have a number of key housing developments under construction in the borough and a number of others expected to commence in the next 12 months. We expect the number of housing completions in the next few years to be significant. This also shows that Sefton is considered by house builders as an attractive place to invest."
