Businesses urged to sign up to Southport Gift Card as Lockdown restrictions ease

LOCAL businesses in Southport are being invited to sign up to the new Southport Gift Card as the date for the easing of National Covid Lockdown restrictions gets closer. Southport Gift Card was launched by the Southport Business Improvement District last year as a way of giving a boost to our local economy while encouraging people to spend local. From Monday, 12 April 2021, if all goes well, businesses which will be allowed to reopen will include:- all shops; personal care; most outdoor attractions; indoor leisure including gyms; self contained accommodation; all children's activities; and outdoor hospitality. Over 80 Southport Town Centre:- retailers, restaurants, cafes, bars and leisure venues have already signed up to accept the brand new Southport Gift Card, with more added each week. Southport BID launched the initiative in order to encourage more people to spend money locally and to help firms recover from the Covid19 Lockdown.  Southport BID CEO Rachel Fitzgerald said:- "As businesses in our Town get ready to reopen, now is the perfect time to sign up to the new Southport Gift Card. The new scheme works exactly like any other shop gift card scheme. The purchaser can pre-load from ₤10 up to ₤200 on a card that they give as a present to colleagues, friends or family members. The card can then be spent just like any other debit card and they can purchase from any venue accepting it and spread their spend across as many venues as they wish.

The Mastercard based gift card could also be used by the Town Centre's many offices and companies as an incentive for employees and colleagues. Advice from Sefton's Director of Public Health on staying safe when meeting others outdoors

FOLLOWING the easing of restrictions earlier this week, Sefton Council's Director of Public Health, Margaret Jones, has shared her advice for how people can stay safe when meeting with others outdoors in a series of new videos.

With better weather and better days ahead, the Council is looking forward to more people being able to spend time in its parks and greenspaces as well as at the Sefton coast, but is urging everyone to be cautious and responsible.

Covid19 measures remain in place even when getting outdoors and people are asked to:- "stay local" at this early stage of restrictions easing.

How to stay safe when meeting with others outdoors:-

► Remember to socially distance

► Don't share equipment (sports or picnic items)

► Only those in your household or bubble in your car

► Wear masks properly - covering your mouth and nose - if using public transport

► Stay local as we're only at the early stages of coming out of Lockdown
