Round Table Chairman in Hospital with blood cancer inspires friends to cycle to all 3 Clatterbridge centres

THE former Chairman of Southport Hesketh Round Table has spent the past 5 months battling blood cancer in Hospital. Now Dean Wilson's friends from Round Table are planning to cycle from Southport to all 3 Clatterbridge centres in:- Aintree, Wirral and Liverpool City centre in recognition of the:- "world class" care he has received from the Clatterbridge team.

Mr Wilson, a Gold Travel Counsellor at Travel Counsellors, has helped to raise thousands of pounds for his local community through his charity work.  As Chairman of Southport Hesketh Round Table, he was involved with popular events in Southport, such as:- the Round Table Bonfire and Fireworks, at:- Victoria Park, the Mad Dog 10K run, the Pudsey Bear tour for Children In Need and the Round Table Father Christmas Santa Sleigh.

Current SHRT Chairman Jordan Shandley has now chosen to support those people like his friend Dean Wilson who are affected by blood cancer.  He said:- "Every year members of Southport Hesketh Round Table raise thousands of pounds for local good causes through our events. I have chosen to support the work of two amazing local charities that support those affected by blood cancer. Our former chairman, Dean Wilson, is currently receiving treatment for Acute myeloid leukaemia at the Clatterbridge Centre in Liverpool. Dean has spent nearly 5 months in Hospital, including a spell in the High Dependency Unit (HDU) in his battle with blood cancer. He has received world class care from the team, at Clatterbridge. Dean is now waiting for a stem cell transplant and is making good progress. To thank the amazing team at Clatterbridge and support the charities that assist their patients, myself and other members of Southport Hesketh Round Table and Dean's friends have decided to cycle from Southport to all three Clatterbridge centres in Aintree, Wirral and Liverpool City centre in 1 day. Whilst this is a modest target of 6 to 7 hours in the saddle for the experienced cyclist, most of us taking part are not experienced cyclists and this will represent quite a challenge! Please help us reach our target of ₤1,500 each for The Candice Colley Foundation and The Bloom Appeal."

Southport restaurant says families are flocking back to enjoy celebrations delayed by lockdown

THE Lansdowne Bistro in Southport is delighted to be welcoming back customers after reopening following lockdown; with lots of people enjoying birthday parties and other celebrations they have missed during the Pandemic. This stylish venue, on Anchor Street, is 1 of Southport's real hidden gems. It is fast forging an excellent reputation among diners, after enjoying new ownership in 2020. However it is very much a case of the best of both worlds, with dynamic new changes adding to the best of what The Lansdowne Bistro has been known and loved for over many years. The bistro was run by legendary Southport restaurateur Mark Tyndall for many years, after his previous ventures included Francisca's on King Street. The family tradition for great food lives on with Mark's son, Patrick Tyndall, now taking ownership alongside friend and business partner Jamie Rae.

The new business enjoyed its launch night in August 2020 and after months in lockdown is finally enjoying welcoming back its many regular customers:- as well as hosting lots of new ones. Jamie Rae said:- "We have had a fantastic opening week at the Lansdowne Bistro, it's been great to welcome back all our regular customers and so many new faces who have been desperate to try us for the 1st time. It's clear from customer feedback and engaging with all our customers that people are desperate to get out and support their favorite local businesses and we are so overwhelmed by this response. We have been getting lots of bookings from guests for delayed birthday parties and various family and friend gatherings, some of whom have not seen each other for almost 18 months. It's been fantastic to be a part of bringing people back together and creating special memories. Because of the easing of lockdown restrictions, it has been great to see people enjoying sharing tables of four or tables of 6, after previously being restricted to single household tables resulting in mainly tables of just 2. Our last day before lockdown was on Christmas Day. We were due to open on New Year's Eve and were fully booked, but then lockdown came in and that was that. It has been a very long four and a half months since then! So we would like to thank everyone for their patience and support in our re-opening."

Jamie and Paddy have enjoyed making their mark at The Lansdowne Bistro since taking over. Huge attention has gone into crafting a truly impressive menu. Jamie Rae said:- "The restaurant is a great example of old meets new. Head chef and joint owner Patrick is keeping all of the much loved Tyndall family dishes and executing them in the style that has been key to the success over the past 40 years at various restaurants around Southport by his father Mark. I have come on board as business partner and long-term friend of Patrick after a 6 year stint learning the hospitality trade in London's financial district and then also with the Living Ventures group in the North West working and managing flagship sights for both companies including venues such as Geronimo Inns Oyster Shed by London Bridge. I am a firm believer in a personalised approach to customer service and that operating and owning a restaurant should be done with real passion and flair. Myself and Business Partner and Head Chef Patrick Tyndall strive to do this in all areas of our business in both product quality and service. Together we have introduced a much improved varied wine list, Gin Perfect Serve menu and also cocktail range. The interior has been very much kept the same with a unique collection of hunting and fishing pictures and antiques. There are a few modern twists added with new glassware and the return of linen clothes, as well as new music and lighting to enhance the ambiance of the restaurant. Patrick specialises in preparing fresh seafood such as lobster thermidor and seafood platters; game meat when in season; and our new addition of sharing steaks. Patrick is also known for the incredible sauces he produces for the different dishes, something which has received great feedback from our guests. Now that we are back open again, we have had a great response from our regular customers. It has been fantastic to see them back again!"
