Practice reports worrying Covid Mental Health Crisis in families
AN independent
British healthcare company which provides a UK wide GP service has
reported a 500% surge in calls and access to its services seeking
help on mental health issues.
Cheshire based AKEA Life; which provides an award winning 5 star
concierge GP and health service; has seen a large increase in
requests from its existing client base as well as new enquiries from
clients signing up to its GP and healthcare service for families.
AKEA Life; which is a CQC registered company; confirmed that around
90% of those calls seeking help on mental health issues were doing
so as a result of the Pandemic and the compounded effect on the NHS.
The company also reported that it was seeing a very high percentage
(around 65%) of those mental health issues coming from younger
children and adolescents struggling with the re-integration back
into the School.

at the amount of calls we are taking specifically on mental

will celebrate its 73rd 'birthday.' After a challenging year,
health professionals in Sefton are encouraging everyone to join them in giving
thanks for our national health service and recognising those who have worked
hard to keep our borough safe.
Staff at NHS South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and NHS Southport
and Formby CCG are marking the Anniversary of the creation of the NHS by hosting
a:- 'Big Tea' event, sharing a:- 'Thank You' video
to staff and residents in Sefton and inviting everyone to join in to:- 'light it blue' at home.
Anyone can get involved in the:- 'Big Tea' to say thank you to our
NHS by hosting their own tea party and collecting donations for NHS Charities

University team carried
out a review and analysis of research on aspirin and cancer mortality. They
looked at patients with a wide range of cancers who take aspirin as part of
their treatment could help to reduce their risk of death by 20%, a major review
of existing research has suggested. The academics, at Cardiff University,
carried out a systematic review of 118 published observational studies in
patients with 18 different cancers. They pooled the results and found that in a
total of about 250,000 patients with cancer who reported taking aspirin, this
was associated with a reduction of about 20% in cancer deaths. The review said
the available body of evidence on its efficacy and safety:- "justifies its
use" as a supplementary treatment in a wide range of cancers; and

Inequality gap
widens for children with type 1 diabetes from ethnic minority backgrounds
THE
National
Paediatric Diabetes Audit (NPDA) says that immediate action from
Government is required to address the disparity in access to life
changing diabetes technologies, leading charity Diabetes UK has said
in response to a new report. Findings from the NPDA show
widening inequalities in the care of children and young people with
type 1 diabetes, within England and Wales, for the 6th year. These
include poorer diabetes outcomes and worsening access to diabetes
technology in children and young people from ethnic minority
backgrounds and socially deprived areas. The NPDA reveals that:- Children
and young people with type 1 diabetes from ethnic minority
backgrounds are more likely to have higher average blood sugar
levels (HbA1c) compared to White children;
Black children and young people have the highest average HbA1c
levels, followed by children with a Mixed ethnic background and
Asian children respectively...

THOUSANDS of jobseekers across
the North West have seized the chance to retrain and build up their skills
through the Government's Sector based Work Academy Programme (SWAP), which helps
people start new careers and fill vacancies in growing sectors.
Over 5,000 people in the North West;and almost 65,000 across England and
Scotland; enrolled in the programme since March 2020, supporting the
Government's commitment to level up opportunity across the county and build back
better from the Pandemic.
A SWAP lasts for a maximum of 6 weeks where jobseekers learn new skills, gain
hands on work experience and build their contacts in a new line of work. There
is also a guaranteed job interview at the end of the course for a live vacancy.
Minister for Employment Mims Davies MP said:- "The Pandemic has given many
people the chance to explore careers they'd perhaps never considered, and SWAPS
offer them a vital chance..."

Teenagers jailed
for machete attack
2 teens who launched
a horrific machete attack on board a train at Liverpool Lime Street
have been jailed following a British Transport Police investigation.
Kyle Anthony Kearney, aged 18, of Old Chester Road, Rock Ferry,
Wirral, was jailed for 8 years, at Liverpool Crown Court, on
Wednesday, 30 June 2021. Bailey Doyle, aged 17, of Fletcher Avenue,
Rock Ferry, Wirral, was sentenced to 9 years and 4 months in jail.
Each had pleaded guilty to 2 counts of GBH with intent and
possession of a bladed article at an earlier hearing. The court
heard how the pair attacked their 2 victims as part of an ongoing
feud on board a train to Wigan, at Liverpool Lime Street Station, on
the morning of Friday, 19 March 2021.
On spotting the pair on the train, both produced machetes with
Kearney chasing 1 of the victims down the train, attacking him with
a machete. The 2nd victim managed to stumble from the train onto the
platform where he was also attacked with a machete by Doyle.
