Sefton leader's
message to residents following new national restrictions
THE leader of Sefton Council,
Cllr Ian Maher, has issued a message of thanks to residents and businesses for
their continued efforts to fight the Covid19 Pandemic. Cllr Ian Maher, Leader of
Sefton Council, said:- "I understand these new measures will come as
disappointing news for both our residents and many businesses, all of whom have
worked so hard to ensure we are as safe and as resilient as we can possibly be
during the ongoing Covid19 Pandemic. It is imperative everyone follows the
latest National Government Guidelines to save lives and protect our fantastic
NHS network and social care services which the Council provides. Sefton Council,
its partners and the Liverpool City Region have been working none stop to keep
everyone as safe as possible and drive down Covid19 figures and the health and
wellbeing of our residents remains our top priority. Essential Council services
will continue as they have done throughout the Pandemic and I would like to put
on record my heartfelt thanks to all of our staff who have been tirelessly
working to support our most vulnerable members of the community, alongside
providing those vital day to day services which are critical to the borough.
Every single community, street and support bubble in Sefton should be proud of
the amazing grassroots response and unwavering spirit that we have seen in the
last nine months and I have no doubt this will continue as we enter yet another
challenging and difficult time. I understand these new measures will be
particularly distressing to those businesses and none essential sectors who will
have to temporarily close and Sefton Council will continue to do all it possibly
can to help those who need support. I am pleased to hear that the furlough
scheme will be extended throughout November 2020, which will be vital in helping
to protect local jobs and our economy. Once again I would like to thank everyone
across Sefton for their support and, most importantly, following lifesaving
guidelines which are imperative to fighting this Pandemic. For further
