Remembrance
Sunday
AS a mostly overcast, damp day
started for most of the UK, Remembrance Day Services where held in a new way,
due to Covid19 restrictions. Most services where held online, with others
being cancelled, but we will never forget those who have sacrificed themselves
for our nation. This year would have been even more important, as it's
80th year since the Battle of Britain, which started on 13 August 1940. We are
pleased to announce that we will be hosting on our YouTube Channel the Formby
Branch of the Royal British Legion's 'Mark of Remembrance' on
Wednesday, 11 November 2020. Link to the broadcast will be sent out on Formby
Reporter's Email Bulletin Service and also on our Social Media accounts, the
night before. Please do log on and mark this Remembrance Day, especially if you
missed your chance to do so on Remembrance Sunday.
Letter to the
Editor:- "Santa to help children with vision impairment this Christmas."
"WITH the festive season almost
upon us, I'm writing to let your readers know that Santa and his elves are
getting ready to give children with vision impairment a Christmas treat in the
run up to the big day. Each year, Santa receives millions of letters from
children all over the world. To make sure that every child can read his reply,
he has teamed up once again with the Royal National Institute of Blind People
(RNIB) to make sure his letters are available in accessible formats including:-
braille, audio and large print. RNIB’s elves have been spreading festive cheer
for over 20 years and last year sent 1,345 of Santa’s letters to blind and
partially sighted children across the UK. If you know a child with a vision
impairment who would love to receive a letter from Santa, please send their
Christmas letter to:- Santa Claus, RNIB, Midgate House, Midgate, Peterborough
PE1 1TN, by Tuesday, 1 December 2020. Alternatively, you can email:-
Santa@RNIB.Org.UK, by Monday, 21 December 2020,
for an email with a large print attachment. Please make sure to include the
child's:- name age, postal address, contact number and which format they need.
Merry Christmas!" David Clarke, Director of Services at RNIB.
Cadent
announces fundraising boost for good causes
A welcome boost for struggling charities has been
announced by Britain’s biggest gas distribution network Cadent. As charities
struggle with donations amid the economic challenges bought on by the
Coronavirus lockdown Cadent has announced a new initiative which will quadruple
donations. Backdated to donations from 1 October 2020 up to 31 December 2020,
Cadent will quadruple match any donations to its official charity partner
Alzheimer's Society as well as any other UK registered charity. So for everyone
pound donated Cadent will donate four pounds!
A competition will also be held with the most creative fundraising ideas gaining
even more funding from Cadent.
1st prize in the contest will be to have donations matched to the power of 10 up
to a maximum of £4,000, with 2nd prize being donations being matched to the
power of 9 all the way down to 6 place, where donations will be matched to the
power of 4.
All other entrants will have their donations matched to the power of four, up to
a maximum of £1,600.
Cadent Social Responsibility Specialist Laura Barnes said:- "The 2020
Coronavirus outbreak has hit the most vulnerable hardest. To put it bluntly many
have been left broke both figuratively and literally. Our Matched Giving scheme
is utilised by employee year on year and it’s especially comforting at this time
to know that we can now provide them with more funding to help the causes close
to them and their communities. We hope that this initiative will go some way to
alleviating the suffering and challenges that many have faced during the
tribulations since March and help them as we all embark on the road to recovery
from 2020."
