Over 200 Sefton homes to get improved isulation thanks to Council secured funding

PEOPLE on low incomes living in over 200 poorly insulated Sefton homes will benefit from the Council securing almost ₤2 million of Government funding. At its Annual meeting today, Sefton Council gave the go ahead for the scheme, which will see 215 homes retrofitted with improved insulation. This will have the effect of reducing fuel costs to keep these homes warm during cold weather and cool during heat waves. The ₤1.9 million Green Homes Grant Local Delivery Scheme funding has come from The Department of Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) as part of the Government’s post Covid19 response. At its meeting today, Sefton Council formally accepted the funding as well as approving procurement for the work.

Sefton Council Leader, Cllr Ian Maher, said:- "By securing this funding, we can help reduce fuel bills for these low income residents while at the same time improving their homes, reducing local carbon emissions, supporting local jobs and enhancing the communities where these homes are located."

Sefton Council’s Retrofit Section, which is part of its Energy and Environmental Management Team, will manage the scheme’s delivery. Liverpool City Region Combined Authority will be the accountable body for the grant funding.

Cllr Maher added:- "We have identified properties in the Netherton, Litherland and Bootle areas to benefit from this work. They were all constructed in ways that make them hard to insulate without the substantial investment that this funding makes possible. Through our Invest Sefton service we will utilise local contractors where possible and the scheme will to contribute to our Regional carbon reduction commitments and Climate Emergency Strategy."

The grant funding conditions mean the insulation programme must be complete by the 31 December 2021. Contractors will be required to be Trustmark Accredited. The Council will explore more, similar funding opportunities to upgrade Sefton homes when they become available later in 2021. Merseyside businesses urged to apply for NHS recognition awards as top speaker is announced

THE organisers of a prestigious awards event to honour suppliers who have helped the NHS deliver great patient care have secured senior NHS leader Sir James Mackey as keynote speaker. The NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards are hosted by the NHS Northern Customer Board and the Innovation Agency. They are sponsored by the Innovation Agency, Health Innovation Manchester, Yorkshire and Humber Academic Health Science Network and the Academic Health Science Network North East and North Cumbria.

As well as chief executive of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Sir James is Chair of the NHS Customer Board for Procurement and Supply and said:- "I’m delighted to be part of this event to help recognise and celebrate the important role of procurement across the heath and care sector during the difficult times we’ve experienced in the last year. The pandemic has impacted us all in different ways; placing even more importance on a resilient, effective and efficient NHS supply chain. In fact these relationships have never been more important as NHS systems start to focus on supporting economic recovery by thinking more carefully about where products are produced or procured from. By working together we will continue learning and helping understanding of the wider value that supply chains play in the health system. This will be a fantastic opportunity to recognise some of the best initiatives of the past year and learn more about how we can all work together more effectively."

Dr Phil Jennings, Chief Executive of the Innovation Agency, said:- "To be able to attract someone of Jim’s calibre to speak at the NHS in the North Excellence in Supply Awards is an indication of just how important this event is. Patients and staff benefit from collaborations that are also good news for the northern economy. We’re looking forward to a great event where we can recognise a number of successful developments and, in Sir James, hear from someone who knows the NHS and this part of the world intimately."

Categories in 2021 are:-

Innovation Award - to recognise a company where innovation has been used to improve a product, process or service to transform or enhance patient care and improved efficiency within northern NHS trusts.

Small Business Award - to mark a small or medium sized enterprise that has successfully developed a product while also making a significant contribution to the trusts they supply.

Support Services Award - an award aimed at companies whose work provides support to the NHS to help maintain the quality of service.
