CLA responds to Environment Bill’s return to Parliament

RESPONDING to the Environment Bill’s long awaited return to Parliament, CLA President Mark Bridgeman said:- "It's welcome relief to see the much delayed Environment Bill return to Parliament, and now the hard work really starts if the Government is serious about it becoming law this year. While there are some areas of concern, such as water abstraction and the exclusion of heritage, we support the Bill’s robust framework for environmental governance with long terms plans and targets. But, for these ambitious targets to be met, the Bill must work hand in hand with the Agriculture Act and land management schemes to ensure the environment is well preserved for future generations."

The final Hillsborough trial has collapsed

THE Hillsborough aftermath trial has collapsed with Mr Justice William Davis ruling that the accused had "no case to answer." A claim campaigners say is an "absolute mockery" and a "shambles." This is the latest trial to fail since the shocking discovery of failings was uncovered recently. Joining the calls that lessons must be learned and that the law must now be changed was Liverpool City Region Mayor, Steve Rotheram. responded to the news:- "32 years ago, 96 innocent people were unlawfully killed, yet still nobody has been brought to justice. For those who claim the establishment don't close ranks when their wrongdoing is exposed, today's ruling is a prime example that justice only applies to some. My thoughts are once again with the families of the 96 today, who face yet another kick in the teeth in their fight for justice." Liverpool FC also added:- "It is with huge disappointment that Liverpool Football Club notes the latest developments in the judicial process relating to the Hillsborough disaster. The 96 will never be forgotten."
