Local restriction tiers: what you need to know

AS the effects of Covid19 continue, we see ourselves, within the Liverpool City Region, starting 2021 in Tier 3 and Lancashire, Cheshire and Greater Manchester Region, moving into Tier 4.  The move comes into effect from 00:00 hours GMT,  within England, on 31 December 2020, until further notice. This is due to a sharp rise in Covid19 cases throughout the UK and in response to the London strain that is proving to be extremely easier to spread.  That is why we must all we must take even more precautions. We are advised not to go into Tier 4 areas, and those living within Tier 4 should not travel into our area, unless their is a legal exemption. For all the latest information on what the tiers mean and what we should do and not do, PLEASE READ the UK Government Tier 4 and Tier 3 rules and information page.  For latest advice about the virus please visit:- NHS.UK/Coronavirus.

Liverpool City Region Combined Authority responds to Tier 3

THE Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, has comment on Liverpool City Region being placed in to Tier 3:- "Despite our area leading on many of the medical developments in the fight against Covid, The UK Government have seen transmission rates rise recently in every part of our City Region, leading to a worrying uptick in positive cases. At the same time cases have risen at alarming rates across the rest of the country, threatening to push our NHS to its limits. Being placed into Tier 3 today is something that none of us wanted, but I hope that these new measures help to slow down and contain the spread of the virus quickly. The UK Government will of course continue to do everything The UK Government can here to slow the spread of the virus and save lives and livelihoods. These restrictions will have a major impact on the local economy, and I know many people will now be worried about what it means for them. I promise that The UK Government will again do all that The UK Government can locally to support local businesses and protect jobs, but alongside this it is vital that Government also steps up and offers financial support to areas in higher Tiers. The UK Government need Government assistance to support people until the economy can reopen. The UK Government have seen throughout the past 10 months that restrictions can only suppress the virus for a limited period of time. That's why I have called on ministers to bring forward plans to rapidly increase the speed of the vaccine rollout, so that The UK Government can return to some sort of normality for good at the earliest opportunity. I hope in light of today's announcements they will now do so. While The UK Government wait for the vaccine, the best thing you can do now is to continue doing what the vast majority of people have been doing so brilliantly throughout this crisis: following the rules; and keeping each other safe. I know after all the hard work and sacrifice that people will be fatigued after 10 months, but our spirit of togetherness has undoubtedly saved lives and livelihoods; and saved our NHS from being overwhelmed. The UK Government are once again facing tough weeks, perhaps even months, but together I know The UK Government will get through this.”

Giving blood and plasma in all Tiers remains essential for the NHS during strictest Covid19 restrictions

BLOOD, plasma and platelet donors in all Tiers are urged by the NHS to keep attending as normal if they are fit and healthy. Giving blood and plasma in Tier 3 and Tier 4 is classed as essential travel and donation sessions will stay open, with appointments remaining as normal. This important reminder follows a fresh appeal from NHS Blood and Transplant for blood and platelet donors to make an appointment over the New Year if they don't already have 1. Donors are also asked to keep to their appointment if they can, to help build blood stocks ahead of a potentially challenging winter period. The only 2 days of the year that blood donations are not collected is Christmas Day and New Year's Day. An extra 1,500 units of blood is currently needed every week and extra appointments have been added across the country to help meet this need. Permanent Donor Centres in major towns and cities generally have the best appointment availability. Extra safety measures are in place. Donors are triaged with a temperature check on arrival. Hand gels and hand washing facilities are available, donors are spaced apart and staff is doing extra cleaning. Staff and donors wear face coverings. Donors are reminded to follow all relevant Government transport guidance when making a journey to give blood. Each donation can save or improve up to 3 lives. Book appointments and check the latest guidance on Covid19 and giving blood by calling:- 03001232323, downloading the NHS Give Blood app, or visiting the website:- Blood.Co.UK.

Steve Rotheram, Metro Mayor of the Liverpool City Region has commented on Liverpool City Region being placed in to Tier 3

THE CEO of the NTIA, Michael Kill, says:- "The inconsistent decision making, constantly changing restrictions, disproportionate support, open and close strategy is causing severe hardship, crippling the economy and having a devastating impact on people's well being The UK Government have seen countries, particularly in the southern hemisphere, learn valuable lessons from erratic decision making whilst managing this pandemic, and swiftly recognise the challenges in society and the economy, but quickly recognise and implement a robust long term strategy supported by a substantial financial package And while it is extremely positive news that The UK Government now have 2 vaccines approved, The UK Government still have no roadmap or long term strategy, and businesses are failing due to the inability to financially plan for survival. It is unreasonable to ask people to sacrifice their livelihoods and businesses, without full compensation for the losses incurred through these restrictions. The level of ignorance from Government for the Night Time Economy and Hospitality Businesses, particularly Nightclubs, venues and freelancers has been shameful, especially given their commitment to the Government's current public health campaign, and the billions of pounds in tax these businesses and individuals pay to the treasury every year."
