Appeal for witnesses after stabbings on Formby

MERSEYSIDE Police Detectives have issued an appeal for information following an incident on Formby Beach. We are told that the incident took place at around 7.10pm, on Sunday, 30 May 2021, leading to the emergency services being called to the Freshfeild side of the Formby National Trust Nature Reserve. It is reported that 3 males have been stabbed and taken to Hospital, by Air Ambulance, for treatment. The beach was packed with day trippers and locals, enjoying the hot, sunny weather, when this incident occurred, leading to a very heavy Police presence, on the Victoria Road, part of the Reserve. We are told that inquiries are ongoing and also local CCTV is also being reviewed following this shocking attack.

Detective Superintendent Mark Baker said:- "At this early stage we believe that these incidents are linked, but are keeping an open mind as to the motives behind them. However, we know the community of Formby and beyond will be alarmed to hear about what has happened and will share our determination to find those responsible and remove them from the streets. Officers remain at the scene and are available to support any residents looking for information or support. I know that there were a number of people on the beach this evening, and I'd like to urge anyone who saw what happened to come forward and help us to identify the offender as soon as possible. It is appalling and sad that on a sunny day like today when people have been out enjoying themselves we are patrolling our beaches after such a horrific incident. Knife crime has no place whatsoever in our communities and we're doing everything we can to bring the offender to justice."

Merseyside Police would like to speak to anyone on the beach or within the community, who might have any information on what happened so that they can gather as much information as they can to bring the offender to justice. You can pass information via our social media desk on:- Twitter or Facebook, using reference:- '978 of 30/05.' You can also contact them on:- 101 or anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers, on:- 0800555111 or online at:- Crimestoppers-UK.Org.

If this report has affected you, please remember you can get support and advice through charities like Samaritans. Links to other services and organisations that offer help and support directly to people can also be found on The Mental Health Foundation charity's website:- MentalHealth.Org.UK.
