You Say!
DECORATIVE LIGHTS
AT
last one of the 'secret' lights committee has put their head 'above the parapet', but seems to have missed the point somewhat. However I answer your comments by paragraph.
I know the visible evidence is only a proportion of that spent, my worry is that proportion.
I know full well that the cost of infrastructure and man-hours comes into the equation. The infrastructure accounted for over 50% of the first year cost.
Had the right choice of lights been made in the first year, ongoing maintenance/repairs would have been minimised, and there would have been No Need to buy new lights at this early stage.
I never considered the committee person's time was any other than free.
It does not matter how long a project is considered, if the information under consideration is flawed, then so will be the answer. That has always been my point, the committee did not take time enough, to collate full information from accredited decorative lighting experts, therefore the wrong decisions were made, borne out by the fact that after only three years the whole system is being replaced.
Led and xenon systems were available at the time of original installation, both came with a 10 year manufacturers full replacement guarantee!!
£9,800 was spent on new lights last year, now to be replaced!!!! What a waste.
To date I have only known of Martin Hovden on the committee, with whom I have had numerous conversations and correspondence, to try and bring some realism and expertise to the committee, but to no avail. Perhaps now some notice will be taken?
My constructive ideas are yours for the taking. My time would of course be free of charge.
Name and address supplied.

- LITTLE CHEF STAFF ENJOY GHOULS NIGHT OUT!
STAFF
from the Little Chef at Haydock were scared out of their wits at the weekend, but it was all in aid of a good cause! Manageress Gill Taylor, together with three kindred spirits - Joanne Cunliffe, Emma Lapin and Clare Dootson - spent Halloween Night in the 19th century Millbrook Manor in Knowsley to raise money for ChildLine.
"It was a fantastic, once in a lifetime experience," says Gill,
"and a great 'ghouls' night out! We're all big fans of 'Most Haunted' on television, so decided that the sponsored sleepover was a unique way of helping such a worthwhile charity as ChildLine. Thanks to the generosity of family, friends and customers we managed to raise over £230."
Staff at the Manor are convinced that a ghostly presence haunts the building and medium Agnes Davies was on hand to conduct the investigations and hold sittings with everybody present on the night. The snug of the Manor's bar is where the ghost is claimed to have been most active and Gill concedes that much of her team's 'research' took place there.
"We're a close team," says Gill, "and at times it was like a scene out of 'Ghostbusters' as we all hung on to each other for support. The snug was definitely the safest place to find spirits, but not of the supernatural kind! It was a real treat for us, especially with it being Halloween Night, but this was one occasion when we were glad to get out of the heat and get back to the Little Chef Kitchen!"

- Significant investment in Liverpool's childcare
JUST LEARNING, one of Britain's leading children's day nursery operators, has announced that it has bought the two Wonderland Nurseries in Wavertree.
The company, which is the second largest nursery company in the UK, has invested over £1million in the deal to bring the two Liverpool nurseries into its portfolio.
Just Learning considers this to be an important addition to its UK business and wants to contribute to Liverpool's future. High quality childcare is an essential component of economic expansion and growth.
Michael Fallon, Managing Director of Just Learning said:- "Just Learning is very pleased to be investing in the future of the City of Liverpool. The two Wonderland nurseries are very high quality and we are delighted to add them to our portfolio. We are buying them because they are already extremely successful and have a very strong local reputation."
Michael added:- "The nurseries are situated close to Penny Lane, which was immortalised in the famous Beatles song. Although we have nurseries all over the UK, we know that Liverpool, with its City of Culture status, is poised for real growth and we are convinced that a company with our national reach should be investing in the city."
- THOSE WHO GAVE FOR OUR PRESENT FREEDOM.
"GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS:~
THAT HE LAY DOWN HIS LIFE FOR HIS FRIENDS"
LAST year, after the Annual Remembrance service in St Luke's Church, Formby, several people asked,
"Who were those men who names were read out? Where are they buried? When were they killed? What did they do?"
Several other members of the congregation having heard this, offered to try and find out. Many others added that it would be good if we knew something about those men just as their contemporaries did. No longer would they be just some names read out to people who knew nothing about them.
The results to date have been quite gratifying, but not complete. Listed below are the names on the Memorial Board. We have some information now about those with an asterisk against their names, but as yet we have drawn a blank concerning the others. Mr Allan Waplington would like to hear from anyone who can give us more information about any of
them. Please contact him by
emailing us and we will pass the information on.
