The Show Keeps Going On
Photographs By Patrick Trollope & Report By Paul Yates

PARTIES are always a great magnet source for hordes of familiar and unfamiliar faces to turn up. It is well known that Alex Lowes and Upnorth have a renowned reputation for attracting thousands of people to the Southport Weekender and the thirty third Southport Weekender was no exception as people flocked to a somewhat hectic and almost religious affair.

As a Southport Weekender virgin, I did not know quite what to expect. But any reservations that I had at the start were quickly swept away by a whirlwind atmosphere and a feast of great music acts including the Reel people.

The whole weekend was indeed visually stimulating for the masses as they were treated to stunning and stimulating lighting and an ear-splitting sound system along with acts such Joey Negro, Blaze, Joey Negro, Bob Jones and the regular face of Little Louie Vega, just to name drop a few of them.

But with everyone having such a great time, it was difficult for people to refrain from comment:- "We came here for a great atmosphere, the people here are the friendliest you could want to party with and the music is out of this world!", Troy from Harrogate told us after he had cut short his holiday in Detroit, America, just to attend this event. Kale from Canada said:- "It is the greatest excuse in the world to spend a weekend just dancing and having fun!" Even the performers said the same like DJ Bob Jones who summed up the event by saying "I've been here about seven times before and there's some serious partying to be done. I love playing here and I'm already looking forward to the next one."

Local store holder from Southport's Zooma Records said:- "We come every year and this year has been the best yet. It will be hard to top it next year by Alex will always pull a rabbit out of the bag. The event brings in a lot of cash for the town and it puts us well on the music map!"

By Sunday many tired, but happy faces milling around the Pontins complex in Ainsdale as the wind down sessions brought a soothing vibe to easy the drop to reality. But as on partygoer said:- "It's not over yet! Off to the Old Band in Southport for the official after show party." I for one couldn't agree more, except I had to go and write the article. Well photographs speak louder than words, so here they are. SEE YOU AT THE NEXT ONE IN MAY 2004!
