LOCAL schoolchildren will take on star status as they perform the ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially launch the former Alldays store in Tranmere which has been converted to a Co-op with a £120,000 revamp which will create two new jobs and provide a much-improved service.

The youngsters from Devonshire Park and Bedford drive Primary Schools will be presented with £250 for their school funds by store manager Kiona Bayliss to mark the occasion.

She said:- “As a community retailer it is appropriate that we involve the community in our special events and we are delighted that our local schools are playing a central role in the relaunch of the store.”

The former Alldays store, which was acquired by the consumer owned Co-operative Group last year, has been transformed with its conversion to the retailer’s popular Welcome convenience format and features include smart new décor as well as a more comprehensive range to meet all the daily food shopping needs of the community.

What does your hat say about you?

WHEN it’s cold outside you know it’s time to keep your head under wraps with a hat. But what does the kind of hat you wear really say about you?

With Wear A Hat Day, that was on 5 December now over Age Concern.  the results are now in.  The charity were asking people to vote for their favorite hats.

Walking the tightrope between traditional and trendy, a brave 15% follow Britney and Madonna by bringing the flat cap from the Yorkshire moors to the high street. Snooty style comes out top for over 10%, who claim to sport a deerstalker on a regular basis.

But what about the one in ten who skulk around in balaclavas – are they hoping someone won’t recognise them? Perhaps the most worrying of all are the one in ten who claim that a swimming hat is their all-time favorite head gear. We hope that they are not wearing them out of the pool.

The traditional bobble-hat comes out on top with one third of people tipping it as their favorite. A brave 21% venture out into icy weather with no hat to stop the warmth from escaping – think of all the cups of tea that lost heat could make.

Over 20,000 older people across the country die during the winter months, which is why people across the country were wearing hats, the sillier the better, on December 5.

They were raise vital funds to help Age Concern support older people during the cold weather. If you missed it, you can still help and join in the fun and have you own Age Concern’s Wear a Hat Day.

Taking part in Wear a Hat Day is simple – all you need to do is wear a hat and donate £1 to Age Concern.

Gordon Lishman, Director General of Age Concern England, said:- “Whether it’s a woolly bobble hat, or some more original headgear, a big thank you to all who supported us on wear a hat on 5 December and help us to help older people across the country.”
