MP calls for Ban on Disconnections
LEADING Liberal Democrat MP, John Pugh, is lending his weight to a campaign to end disconnections for energy consumers.
John Pugh, Liberal Democrat MP for Southport, said:- “The level of disconnections of customers by energy companies is worrying and will lead to customers in Southport and hundreds across the region being unnecessarily cut off from their gas and electricity supplies. I welcome the efforts of Energywatch to address this issue and I will be supporting this campaign.”
Energywatch, the gas and electricity consumer watchdog, welcomed the support saying that it was a vital boost to the campaign. A spokesperson said that it wanted to use the Energy Bill, expected to have a second reading on December 11, as an opportunity to call for the UK Government to ban disconnections.
