SOUTHPORT came into this game aiming to do the double over Bradford Park Avenue having won the 1-0 away fixture in October. The Sandgrounders gave home debuts to Alex Mortimer and Carl Baker in a strong line-up, manager Liam Watson able to field players inegilable recently due to being cup tied.
Bradford were penned back in their own half for much of the first 45 minutes, Southport creating plenty of openings. Lee Ashcroft going close with a shot that goalkeeper Mathew Boswell parried behind.
The Bradford keeper was kept busy, but stood firm dominating the goal mouth and preventing his side from falling behind. The visitors only real attempt on the goal, being shot from Carl Serrant, which came off an upright and bounced to safety.
Southport captain Chris Price was brought down in the penalty area by Boswell but the
referee gave the decision Bradford's way. Steve Dalys well struck drive was again superbly saved by man of the match Mathew Boswell.
After the Break Southport were caught out by the visitors spoiling tactics, frustrating both players an crowd alike.
Bradford struck in time added on, totally against the run of play. Substitute Craig Smith powered a shot
goal wards from 30 yards out which deflected off Barry Jones into the net to the delight of the travelling fans.
Next Unibond league game is away against old foes Marine. This takes place on Boxing Day. KO 3pm.
