Communities Clean Up

COMMUNITIES in the New Heartlands area of Liverpool are being encouraged to take part in community clean-ups over the next month.

New Heartlands is the initiative which will deliver housing market renewal in parts of the city.

The initiative will also involve improvements to the environment including enforcement action on fly-tipping and pest control measures.

Community skips will also be introduced for a week into a number of areas to give local people a chance to deposit bulky refuse. Cosmopolitan Housing have committed one of their Green Teams and four skips to help with this operation.

The community skip programme starts with in the Granby Triangle on 23 February and then moves on to Granton Road/Herschell Street area in Breckfield (week starting March 10); the "V" Streets in Anfeild / Breckfield (March 8); Wavertree (March 15) and Lodge Lane (March 22).

Councillor Richard Oglethorpe, Executive Member for the Environment, said:- "New Heartlands will have a great impact on housing in the city but it's important that we improve the environment at the same time.

The community skip programme is an opportunity for local residents to make their neighbourhoods cleaner and more attractive. We will be following up this programme with a crackdown on fly-tipping and we will continue work with local communities to improve their area's environment."

Residents who want to know more about this programme should ring 0151 2333001.
