AMATEURS TAKE ON TOP PROFESSIONALS IN THE WEETABIX CHALLENGE

ENGLAND’S Golf Coast will host another major golf tournament when the best of Europe’s lady professionals take on Great Britain & Ireland’s top amateurs at Formby Golf Club.

The annual Weetabix Challenge, staged on April 17, as preparation for the Curtis Cup, will see the biggest event in women’s amateur golf in which the nations of the UK take on the America at the same venue in June.

This year’s Curtis Cup could be one of the most intriguing contests for many years, with the eight-strong U.S. team having no player older than 22. And in being selected for the match, 14-year-old Hawaii based Michelle Wie became the youngest ever player to be picked for the Curtis Cup.

The Weetabix Challenge started in 1994 and this year’s match at Formby will be the 11th time the top players from both amateur and professional golf have met.

The foursomes get underway at 8:00am and the singles start at 12:40 in the afternoon, admission is free.
