Heat 2 Search for a Star 2004.
Photos by Patrick Trollope

AGAIN a thunderous start to yet anouther week Heats, both inside and out. Heat 2 of the 2004 North West Search For A Star commenced with rising star Jade Cotgrave. She did an amazing performance with a very powerful voice that stunned the audience and also the contestants. "If that girl does not go far, it will be an enormous loss for the music industry." one of the contestants commented.  It was then down to Simon Smithies to open the show and for the contestants to battle it out.

Only 2 could go through and the talent was yet again amazingly high and the judges found it hard to get it down to just three for the second week running. The age range and experience range was huge, ranging from an acrobatic performance, from a young chap of 76 years! He has been a member of the cast of Faulty Towers, so this was no huge sock to the system. The youngest was also the least experienced at the age of 16 years, a soloist singer and dancer.

Congratulations to all of you who took part, even if you did not get through. You still entertained the audience and all of your performances were of the very high standard and you are all a credit to the North West.

The winner of Heat 2 was a stunningly talented pianist James Loynes, aged 20 from Chorley. In second place was pianist and singer aged 19 from Southport called Christian Malley. Both of them will now go through to this year's North West Semi Finals. Third place went to a highly accomplished mimic and stand up comedian from Liverpool, Bob Carney. Finishing the night off Lesley Smith, who came up the road from Crosby just to put in a guest appearance, rounding of a wonderfully entertaining night with a fantastic vocal performance.

The competitors in Heat 2 where:- Heather Birch aged 16; Sam Sillett aged 19, from Boston, Lincolnshire; Michelle Taylor aged 17 from Blackburn; James Loynes aged 20 from Chorley; Bob Carney from Liverpool; Buttercandy, Gemma and Angharad from South Liverpool; Gemma do Rego aged 16 from Preston; Ben Jones aged 21 from Southport; Tracy kemp aged 24 from Southport; Kourtney Leverton aged 16 from Aintree; Christina Malley aged 19 from Southport & Barny Dee.
