THE Father and Son team, who are both Monopoly enthusiasts and come from the Wirral, have beaten off fierce nationwide competition and secured a place in this years 2004 UK Monopoly Championships. They are in with a chance of rolling their way to the World Championships in Tokyo later this year.
Over the last three months, Games giant Parker have been scouring the UK for Monopoly enthusiasts to take part in the British Championships on 3rd September. Hopefuls were asked to enter their details online at www.monopoly.co.uk and of the hundreds of entries received 64 contestants were chosen to try their luck at the world famous Monopoly tournament.
>From over 500 applicants, David Kenny and John Kenny from Wallasey, Wirral have been chosen to use their money-making wits against the 61 other contestants in a bid to snatch the prestigious title and go on to represent their country in the World Monopoly Championships in Tokyo this October.
Held on HMS Belfast in London, the British heat will see the 64 contestants compete to own it all. HMS Belfast will provide the ideal setting for the Championships as the battleship is one of the game’s traditional playing pieces plus the venue offers fantastic views of London, the city that provides the overall theme for the game.
Played in a knock out style contest, the British Monopoly Champion 2004 will receive £5000 in prize money and an all expenses paid trip to Japan. When in Tokyo, the champion will join winners from over 30 countries worldwide to compete for the coveted title of ‘World Monopoly Champion’.
Sue Jones Hasbro group brand manager for Parker comments:- "The response for this year’s Monopoly Championships has been fantastic. If the number of entries is anything to go by this years contest is sure to be fiercely competitive and we wish David and John the best of luck as they battle it out to win it all!"
All supporters will be welcome on to the HMS Belfast to watch the championships.
