Last Week of Search 4 a Star 2004 Heats.  Heat 5.

THE 15 year old rising star, Stefi Strokes from Ormskirk, was too young by only 2 days to compete in this year's competition, but she still got to sing. She was amazingly good and one you will have to keep an eye out for her in next year's event. Simon Smithies could not do the show this week, so instead of competing, as in previous years, it was down to Simon J to take over as compere, with musical back up from the Love Band, Roger Latham and Chris Dickinson. The contestants were Paul Barberel, aka John Paul, aged 22, from Preston, Wendy Chalke, aged 16, from Southport, Rob Cherry, aged 22, from Southport, Josie Clough, aged 18, from Bradford, Paula Edwards, aged 17, from Prescot, Groove 24/7 from Manchester, (sadly, only Nicole and Gemma could sing, as Dave was ill), Andy Moran, aged 16, from Huyton, Suzanne Morris, aged 23, from Aintree, Gemma Nelson, 22, from Horsham in West Sussex, Wendy Jane O'Connor, aged 17, from West Kirby and Maddie Holland, aged 35, from Baildon in West Yorks.

All the contestants faced very strong competition, but the atmosphere at the back of the stage was more of a family one with all the competitors helping one another. This was a fantastic sight to see and I want to say 'well done' to them for doing just that and for putting on what has to be a stunning end to the heats for 2004. Sadly, only two can go through to the Floral Hall and the regional finals, and this year from heat five, it is Wendy Chalke and Rob Cherry. Coming in third place was Gemma Nelson, who unfortunately had had to go home before the results were anounced, because of the long drive ahead of her.

'Good luck' to all who were in the heats this year, and, if you won through, see you at the Floral Hall on September 18 at 7:30pm. A very large round of applause must be given to the staff of ABD Productions who organised the event and to the Art Centre Staff.

See you at the North West Finals
