BINGO callers from the North of England's will be battling it out for the title of Northern Bingo Caller of the Year at the Paradise Island bingo club in Walton, during the afternoon of Friday, at the end of this month.
Enthusiasts from Carlisle, Scunthorpe, Morecambe, Blackpool and Hull, will be flexing their tonsils and polishing their microphones, ready to go take their places on stage, in front of a live audience of discerning bingo players.
The contest, open to all main-stage bingo callers, is in its 10th year - and the North has already produced three of those winners - two of which are trying their luck again in this year's contest.
The Northern regional winner will receive a £250 prize plus an all expenses paid weekend for two, staying at the exclusive Tower Hotel in London in November, to participate in the National Final, where he (or she as we have several lady bingo callers taking part) will compete against the best bingo callers in the land, from Scotland, Wales, the South and the Midlands.
The prize is a "Golden Microphone" trophy; a cash prize of £500, plus an all expenses paid trip for two to Los Angeles, and Las Vegas, where the winner will have the opportunity to call a bingo game in a Las Vegas casino.
The competition is sponsored by the National Bingo Game which organises a nightly game linking over 500 bingo clubs. The top prize is up to £100,000, plus regional prizes of several thousand pounds. However, on Sunday evenings the top prize goes up to £200,000 and there are also occasional Big Money Games where the national winner can collect up to £500,000.
