Year of Faith Celebration at Liverpool John Lennon Airport
AS part of Liverpool's Faith in One City celebrations, The Rt Rev James Jones, Bishop of Liverpool, today opened The Rainbow Garden of Remembrance at Liverpool John Lennon Airport.
The brief ceremony was held in the company of the Deputy Lord Mayor of Liverpool, representatives from different faiths on Merseyside, invited guests and Airport staff.
The garden, which is located adjacent to the passenger terminal, is an initiative organised by the Airport's Chaplain, Nicky Lees and has been provided to give all Airport users a tranquil area for quiet reflection and where individuals can remember loved ones who may have been associated with the Airport or aviation.
Upon declaring the Garden open Robert Hough, Chairman of Liverpool John Lennon Airport invited Bishop James Jones to plant a tree to celebrate the occasion and then all guests and Airport staff present planted individual flower bulbs to help bring colour to the Garden in the Spring.
A second tree has also been planted in the garden in memory of all those who served at the Airport during the wartime period 1939 to 1945.
Robert Hough commented:- "This is the first time that the airport has been able to offer
such a facility to passengers and employees. We have been working closely with
Nicky to ensure the garden has been designed to appeal to passengers and
employees of different faiths and we are delighted to be able to provide this small haven of
reflection and tranquillity in such a fast moving environment".
Liverpool City Council Leader Mike Storey, said:- "The Garden of Remembrance
will be a wonderful addition to Liverpool John Lennon Airport. It is fitting that the
Airport is opening this garden to the public in our year of Faith in One City. It will
provide a peaceful, tranquil space for people to remember their loved ones, or to sit
and reflect."

Car involved in Drive-Offs on Sefton
MERSEYSIDE Police are appealing for information about a car, which is believed to have been used in a number of crimes around Sefton.
A metallic blue Ford Focus which has been customised with quad headlights, an air intake duct on the bonnet, a rear spoiler and alloy wheels his believed to have used in a number of drive offs from petrol stations in the Bootle, Formby and Maghull areas over the last two months. The car is believed to have displayed a number of stolen registration plates.
The driver is described as being white, aged 25-30 years, of slim build and with short dark hair. A front seat passenger is described as being female, white, about 25-30 years old and with blonde hair.

Card Cloning Warning.
Crime Prevention Advice Issued by Merseyside Police
MERSEYSIDE Police are warning the public in Sefton to be on the look out following card cloning incidents in Southport.
The advice follows a number of incidents when members of the public have approached bank ATMs to withdraw cash. Unknown to them and the bank, offenders have fastened over the card slot an identical slot. When the card is inserted, all of the electronic data is copied and can be used to produce an identical bank card. At the same time a small lens attached to the ATM photographs the customer typing in their PIN number. The image is transferred to a person standing nearby with a camera phone.
The system enables the offenders to withdraw cash and purchase goods without the customer realising until a statement arrives.
Detectives would like to reassure the public that this is not common in Sefton however would like them to be alert when using ATMs.
