Princess Diana Scam:- Email Fraud Warning
THIS week a warning was issued that Millions of people around the UK and around the world have been on the receiving end of an email scam purporting to aid the
"Princess Diana Memorial Fund".
According to Early Warning (www.early-warning.org.uk), the "report"
that the email says is "banned in the UK" because it contains
"truly explosive information" is not real. The email and the website have no connection to the real charity set up to honour the late Princess Diana, which is not called the
"Princess Diana Memorial Fund", but The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund. The report is being offered for sale, via a clickable link to the website www.princess-di.net, at GBP9.99 per copy, but is realy a scam.
According to Early Warning, the people behind the email are realy fraudsters, who operate from a series of bogus email addresses. One of the names used in the email scam is the
"International Public Council on Protection of Freedom of
Speech". No such organisation exists.
The fraud has been brought to public attention by the organisation Early Warning, which maintains the UK's largest and most comprehensive database of online and credit card fraud, and works with the Police, security companies, banks, online payment service providers [PSPs] and credit card companies.
Andrew Goodwill, Managing Director of Early Warning, said:- "We realised at once that this was a scam and have tracked it back to a bogus address, one of many used by these fraudsters. We immediately alerted the payment service provider and they closed the account, but the fraudsters are able to divert payments through to another account straight away. It is relatively easy for any criminal to set up an account and a website, in this case using a fictional London address, a fictional organisation, and offering for sale a fictional product. So, be warned: If you receive an email of this kind, it is a scam."
Blue Mail Boxes?
Cartoon by ???
THE Royal Mail's 150 year long monopoly on pillar box deliveries has been broken by a new rival. Yes in the UK we now have not only Red pillar boxes but Blue ones!
The Blue mail boxes are now working, but what are
they for?
The UK based independent mail delivery company DX Services PLC have launched a new service two weeks ago for business-to-business
mail and that is what the blue box is for.
The mail services so far has 96 franchised outlets spread nationwide and are at high street outlets, one of them is in Liverpool city center.
The blue pillar boxes take business-to-business letters and packages only. Items posted in the boxes will be delivered to company addresses overnight, with the option of bar-code tracking and a customer signature on delivery.
Royal Mail still has exclusive rights to deliver non-bulk mailings of letters weighing under 100g, where fewer than 4,000 items are sent at once, but this new
rival might dent ability for the Royal Mail to record profits like it has this year. But some have pointed to what happened a few years ago with the phone boxes, when
rivals tried to take on BT.

STRATEGIC TEAM GROUP ON THE RIGHT TRACK WITH £750K MERSEYRAIL CONTRACTS
FOLLOWING the completion of an alterations and upgrade project on behalf of Merseyrail which
totaled £365k, Strategic Team Group, one of the UK’s fastest growing suppliers of building and property solutions, has been awarded a further contract in excess of £300k.
The original contract included refurbishing staff welfare facilities, carrying out office upgrades and the automation of the gate line entrance to several underground stations in the Merseyside area. The automation of the gate line entrance is designed to assist with crowd control; prevent
traveling without payment and help increase the flow of traffic through stations. The new solution will enable Merseyrail to record travel data with a view to further improving the
traveling experience for customers.
The automated gate line project was a design and build contract within which STG supplied design, build, joinery, engineering and site management services. The company worked during a four hour window per day when the stations are not operational. As each station is underground, STG had to meet strict targets in line with Merseyside Fire Department regulations. Prior to this project, STG employees received specialist training in order to be awarded a Pink Card which enables the company to work under such conditions.
Throughout the implementation of the projects, STG worked alongside its associated company, Strategic Shutters and Doors, to deliver high quality building and enabling works.
Charles Tweed, Business Development Director of STG, said:- “We are delighted to work with Merseyrail who are progressively expanding their successful operation across the North of England and feel it demonstrates the broad extent of our services and capabilities with regards to working under strict time constraints and alongside a range of other suppliers.”
Paul Collins, Assistant Facilities Manager at Merseyrail, said:- “It is vital for us to know we are working alongside companies we can rely on and this is why our relationship with STG works. The team are flexible and accommodating of our needs and the results have been first class every time.”
Merseyrail is an urban network of vital importance to the transport infrastructure of Liverpool and Merseyside. Each weekday, Merseyrail services approximately 100,000 passengers via 600 daily train services.
Merseyrail is a unique concession in the UK as the role of the Strategic Rail Authority has been delegated by Parliament to the Merseyside Public Transport Executive,
Merseytravel, and the concession agreement is between the operator and
Merseytravel.
The concession is operated by Merseyrail Electrics (2002) Ltd, a 50/50 joint venture company between Serco and
NedRailways. The new operator (branded Merseyrail) operates the Wirral Line and the Northern Line.
Serco/Ned Railways took over the Merseyrail franchise in 2003. Serco/Ned provides services throughout the North of England via the Northern Rail franchise.
