THE 24 Hour Yacht
Race 2005 proved to be very interesting for the sailors this year
with a good strong wind blowing across the lake. This making ideal
conditions for the race for both spectators and crews. It really did
keep the crews of the dinghy's working hard, with some capsizing
after getting caught out by the sudden changes in the wind. This
race is now one of the leading dingy races in the world, and the
UK's number one endurance race for any ameteaur dinghy sailor.
The race was hosted and run by the West Lancashire Yacht Club who
have run this event now for 39 years. It now has three categories of
vessels, Enterprise, GP14 and Lark dinghies; and has opportunities
for Masters and University teams to compete for special prizes and
on equal terms with all other teams making this a huge test of
skill.
The race not only takes it out on the crew but also on the boats. As
they are not designed for this heavy usage, running repairs where
carried out in a form of put lane. This was captured on out time
laps video that we will be showing next week on Southport Reporter
and also later this week on Liverpool Reporter.
Due to the unusual amount of footage and pictures we have had this
week, we are running more of the 24 hour race pictures next week,
with the videos.
The final results of the race are underneath and on the next page
the final prize allocations.
