The latest Southport pub, but No frills

THE Ship and Anchor opened on Friday 19 November with a relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The pub, formerly the Amsterdam Bar, was taken over earlier this year. After an extensive makeover and lots of restructuring inside and out, the bar has never looked so good. The new pub has the tradional country boozer feel, but it has a no frills policy. As other pubs fight to get the latest bands played as loud as they can on their DJ systems, see fighting over football and other sports, it makes a change to see a pub that has declared war on this new world and headed back the traditional idea of pub provision; a friendly meeting place where you get good traditional ales, beers, wines, you can catch up on the local gossip and hear yourself think.
