Under 10
Wilf Jenkinson Cup Final
Town Green 'A' 1-0 Formby JSC
In weather conditions more in keeping with mid January than the
first week in April both sets of players were a credit to their
clubs for the effort and determination they put in to this closely
fought contest.
Chances were few and far
between in the early stages as the rain drove down and both defences
kept on top. After 10 minutes a fine move involving Elliot Turner
and Rob Welsh resulted in an excellent turn and shot from Welsh,
saved brilliantly by the Formby keeper in to the path of John Cain
who slotted home what would prove to be the winning goal. Formby
pressed before half time but never quite created the clear cut
chance they needed.

At half time Green
introduced Steven Roberts and together with Alex Muirhead and David
Taylor they worked tirelessly in midfield. As the game entered the
final five minutes Formby pressed and were kept at bay by the
outstanding Luke Dwyer in defence and several excellent saves from
Joe Molyneux. With time running out Conor McLean worked an excellent
position and just failed to convert the second goal.
The final whistle came
to the joy of Town Green and disappointment of Formby. As they have
done in all previous fixtures both teams played with fantastic
spirit and sportsmanship, and as usual only one goal settled it.
Under 9
Jim Rourke Trophy Final
Redgate Rovers 2-3 Town Green
This game was always going to be a close contest between town green
and Redgate rovers. Town green started well with Connor Tierney
scoring the opening goal with some great work from Nathan Peet.
The conditions played a big part in this match. Town green pressed
forward again with a goal from Kieren turner settling the nerves of
Town green. With a minute to go in the 2nd half Dan Adbous scored
with a fantastic diagonal shot for Redgate to set up a exciting 2nd
half.
Redgate started the
second half like they finished the first bombarding Anthony caunce`s
goal. Dan adbous scored again to make it 2-2 with 15 mins to go.
Both teams went for the win creating an exciting end to end game.
With only 3 mins to go Kieren turner shot from outside the box to
score a goal worthy of winning any final.
Both teams were a credit
to the Jim Rourke Trophy.
Under 8
Town Green 'A' 3-0 Birkdale United
Town Green ‘A’ were up against title contenders Birkdale in this
Craven Minor Under 8's game. Town Green started brightly and despite
a heavy pitch and driving rain they played flowing football. Danny
Huyton showed great determination, pace and skill going forward and
after a move involving Joel Maxwell, he crossed the ball to Tom
Pearce who opened the scoring for Town Green. Sam Stubbs defended
brilliantly and Town Green finished the half 1-0 up.
The 2nd half started as
the first finished with Town Green imposing their presence on the
game, although Birkdale showed their character with a few half
chances and forced saves out of Stephen Killen.
To increase the scoreline, Pearce once again popped up in the midfield and smashed
the ball into the net for his brace. Zack Conway and Kieran Dowell
were outstanding for Birkdale and Town Green respectively, and after
a foul inside the box, Dowell converted a penalty close to time that
secured a 3-0 win for Town Green. |
