"Dear readers of Southport and Mersey Reporter... The North
Sefton Hackney Carriage Association Members wish the Visitors and
the Southport Public a Happy Easter and a safe Easter break, but
please know the Law. Be sure you know Which is Which and the rules
that relate to them!
Taxi Hackney
Carriages.
All Taxi
Hackney Carriages can be instantly recognised by the illuminated
Taxi signs on the roofs and can be purpose built taxi, known to most
as ‘Black Cabs’, or Saloon Cars or MPV. They can be hailed on the
street or at a taxi rank for immediate hire!
Hackney Carriages will have a “For hire sign” visible to the public
from outside the taxi. They can also be pre-booked by 'phone. All
Taxi Hackney Carriages will have A WHITE SEFTON LICENCE PLATE on the
rear of vehicle showing the Cab No. They will also have a small
White illuminated sign inside the vehicle showing the Cab No. as
well as a small White Sefton sign inside the vehicle showing the Cab
No.
All Taxi Hackney Carriages Drivers will have a White Sefton Hackney
Carriage Badge showing his or her photograph and Hackney Carriage
drivers badge number on.
Licensed Private
Hire Vehicles.
These can be
any type of saloon car or MPV. To order Private Hire Vehicle/s you
MUST be pre-book by 'phone via licensed operator you cannot simply
hail or approach them without a pre-booking via licensed operator.
Private Hire Vehicles CAN NOT LEGALLY BE HAILED in the street for
immediate hire! It is AGAINST THE LAW for the driver to stop to
pick-up any fare-paying passenger/s unless they are pre- booked by
'phone via licensed operator
Passengers that flag a non-pre-booked Private Hire Vehicle/s will
only have third party Insurance cover.
The driver can be prosecuted for acting outside of their insurance
and can be fined and have their licence endorsed with 6 to 8 points
for each trip!
Door Signs must be displayed at all times on both front doors
showing the number of the company and stating.
PRIVATE HIRE ONLY in letters at least 1 inch high.
All Licensed
Private Hire Vehicles will have a blue Sefton private hire licence
plate on the rear of vehicle showing the Sefton private hire plate
number on it.
A small sign showing the Sefton private hire, licence plate number
inside the vehicle as well. All Licensed Private Hire drivers will
have a Blue Sefton private hire licence Badge showing his / her
photograph and Sefton private hire badge number.
The Do Nots!
Do not flag down any vehicle without an illuminated ‘Taxi’ roof
sign!
Do not get in to any unmarked vehicle, saloon car or MPV!
Do not get into any vehicle without checking for the Sefton licence
