SOUTHPORT
started brightly when Steve Daly`s shot was tipped over the bar
early on in the game.His second attempt on goal was narrowly wide
but he was rewarded on 15 minutes when Blakeman set up Baker whos
shot was palmed away by Kerr only for Daly to react first and turn
the ball into the net from close range to make it 1 to 0 for the
home side.
Gravesend lost their goalkeeper late on
in the first half with hamstring trouble, Craig Holloway being the
replacement.Luke Moores shot was cleared off the line by Southports
Jerome Fitzgerald as Gravesend went in search of an equaliser.An
altercation between Sid Pickford and Justin Skinner led to the
referee booking both of them as temperatures ran high.
The Sandgrounders endured a nervous second half as Gravesend
threatened to score but after 3 minutes added time Southport
collected a valuable 3 points in their quest for survival in the
Conference.
