Media Arts Organisation Seeking Additional Trustees
FOLLY would like to invite enthusiastic individuals who would
be interested in participating within a media arts environment as an
honorary trustee. Working jointly with other members of the Board,
the role will assist folly’s decision-making and board development,
ensuring the organisation pursues its governing objectives.
Candidates will have an understanding of the legal responsibilities
of the Board of Trustees and bring with them a track record in an
area of expertise, i.e. business development, legal and finance, or
knowledge of charitable organisations.
Ideally, candidates will have an interest in contemporary art and a
familiarity with the City of Lancaster and the counties of Cumbria
and Lancashire. An awareness of arts funding, creative
technologies or youth work would also be an advantage, as folly
works with a number of creative partnerships across the region and
the role will provide an opportunity to promote folly in the
capacity of ambassador.
Based in Lancaster and actively operating across Lancashire and
Cumbria, folly is entering an exciting period through its
involvement with Lancaster City Council's project to establish a new
Storey Creative Industries Centre. folly is an innovative
media arts organisation in the North West specialising in the
creative use of technology and showcasing new media, moving image,
and sound and photography through a distributed programme of
educational workshops, exhibitions, research and consultancy work.

Folly is a media arts organisation delivering creative events,
workshops and exhibitions in Lancashire and Cumbria. Specialising in
the creative use of technology, folly is involved with projects
including the web, creative software, mobile communications, sound,
animation, photography and moving image.
Folly is developing a Cumbrian base at Staveley in addition to its
existing Lancaster location. folly will deliver events, exhibitions
and training workshops at a number of locations in Cumbria and
Lancashire throughout 2006 and beyond.
Folly has relocated as part of the redevelopment plans for the
Storey Creative Industries Centre (SCIC) by Lancaster City Council
and is currently delivering a distributed artistic programme, from
its new office premises in Lancaster.

LAUNCHES LIVERPOOL SEARCH FOR TV STARS OF THE FUTURE
TELEVISION and Young People (TVYP) is a FREE scheme which
helps TV entrants kick-start their career and meet key industry
players.

Television and Young People (TVYP), the charitable arm of the
Edinburgh International TV Festival has launched a search for
budding TV stars of the future and is coming to Liverpool on 18
April. The FREE five day course has gained a reputation as an
academy of excellence over the last 16 years providing the perfect
springboard for a career in television. So if you are a self
confessed TV junkie who is desperate to try your hand at making
quality television and keen to meet the teams behind Big Brother,
Sky News, Hollyoaks and MTV’s TRL then TVYP is for you!
Linda Small, the TVYP Outreach Worker, will be speaking to young
people at BBC Radio Merseyside, Blackburne House, Off Hope Street,
Liverpool from 4pm-6pm 18 April 2006. Linda will be speaking about
the programme and how to apply, as well as showing a DVD of the
scheme and answering any questions.
TVYP, a 5-day training programme which helps young people aged 18 to
21 to gain a foothold in the TV industry, returns to Edinburgh for
its sixteenth year this August bank holiday. The acclaimed scheme
gives young people the opportunity to meet and learn from key
industry figures and has helped to launch hundreds of TV careers,
with alumni including Andy Zein, Managing Director of Tiger Aspect
and Cameron Roach, the Producer of Footballer’s Wives to name but a
few.
The TVYP scheme runs alongside the Edinburgh International
Television Festival, giving delegates access to some of the
brightest talent working in TV today. Past speakers have ranged from
celebrities such as Vernon Kay, Jayne Middlemiss and Graham Norton
as well as leading industry figures including Jana Bennett, Director
of Television at the BBC, Tim Hincks, Endemol’s Chief Creative
Officer, Writer Russell T Davies and Broadcaster Jon Snow.
Thousands of applicants each year are whittled down to a lucky 150
delegates who gain the chance to attend the FREE event, which this
year takes place between 24 and 28 August 2006. Vernon Kay, who
entertained the delegates last year with his first ever presenting
audition tape, says:- ‘I've been presenting on television for
7 years now and it has been the most exciting, enthralling and
rewarding job I have ever had. There is so much that can be achieved
through television and media and it is an honour to give any help I
can to people starting out on a similar path.’

the most prestigious TV companies in the UK through the TVYP at Work

Thursday 13 April 2006 following a short dry docking to effect
essential repairs. As a consequence, fast craft
schedules are now subject to alteration and with utilisation of fast
craft Sea Express 1 to provide extra sailings.
