Final 1986 Reunion match
Report & pictures by Sally Devine
ANFIELD
played host on 1 May 2006 to the reunion match of the Merseyside
rivals FA Cup clash of 1986. Almost 33,000 fans were present
to witness football legends such as Kenny Dalglish, Alan Hansen, Ian
Rush, Kevin Ratcliff and Dave Watson do battle again. All
proceeds of the game benefited the Marina Dalglish charity appeal to
build an oncology unit at Fazakerley hospital in Liverpool.
Jan Molbys silky
midfield skills were still evident in a red shirt and Steve McMahon
renewed old rivalries with his Everton counter parts. The game
was played in good spirit as Everton shaded the first half, Dave
Watson standing firm in defence.
Kenny Dalglish making
his last ever appearance in a red shirt at Anfield failed to score
despite the Kop willing him on. John Durnin scored for
Liverpool in the 89th minute to the delight of the home crowd, a
close range shot breaking the deadlock.
Result:- Liverpool 1
- Everton 0
Goal:- John Durnin
