Next stop 2008
ONLINE art
site
liverpoolgallery.com is opening
an exciting new exhibition space at the historic Albert Dock.
Liverpoolgallery.com has
teamed up with the Albert Dock Company to showcase the work of forty
Merseyside painters and photographers within the Grade 1 listed
visitor attraction.
The new exhibition, which runs from 10 March 2007 to 29 June 2007,
is located within the Albert Dock’s Colonnades area, just a few
metres from Tate Liverpool and the many art shops at the Dock
including Liverpool Pictures and Art 4 You.
The Liverpoolgallery.com website offers a free online gallery space
to local artists and photographers, giving their work a world-wide
audience. One of the organisation’s main goals is to raise funds for
Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice in Liverpool. The online gallery makes a
donation to the West Derby based Baby Hospice for each piece of
artwork sold through the website and recently held an exhibition at
Zoe’s Place.
The opening of the
Liverpoolgallery.com exhibition at the Albert Dock follows the
highly successful launch of Site, a major new art gallery curated by
Liverpool John Moores University and the Liverpool Biennial of
Contemporary Art, situated within the Dock’s Queen Elizabeth Hall.
This partnership-working with local arts organisations ties in with
the Albert Dock’s new focus on leisure and tourism. The Albert Dock
Company is building on the attraction’s strong cultural visitor
experience by showcasing the work of Liverpool’s vibrant art scene
within a World Heritage waterfront setting.
Ian Brown, Director of the Albert Dock Company says:-
“Thousands of people visit Tate Liverpool, the Merseyside Maritime
Museum and the Dock’s many art retailers each week and we are keen
to develop cultural activities even more. Two more brand new gallery
spaces will soon open at the Dock. A collective of artists based at
50 Parr Street Studios will launch a new exhibition ‘From One
Address’ and Markmakers, the Halton-based contemporary Artists’
Collective will showcase arts works all responding to the River
Mersey.”
Anita Smith, local photographer and Liverpoolgallery.com exhibition
co-ordinator said:- “We are delighted to have the opportunity
to display Merseyside artists’ work in such a prime location. We are
working with the Albert Dock Company to make the Dock an area where
locals and visitors to Liverpool can come to enjoy art in a
beautiful and historic setting. This is also an excellent
opportunity to raise awareness of Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice.” |
TEAM BOOST FOR FORMBY HALL GOLF CLUB
FORMBY Hall
Golf Club has strengthened its management team with three new
appointments. The latest additions to the team all have a strong
background in the golf, leisure and tourism sectors and will play a
pivotal role in transforming the club into a luxurious four star
hotel, resort and spa.
Gaynor Black, originally from Southport, has taken up the newly
created position of director of marketing; Ged Heaslip from Crosby
has been appointed general manager and Chris Patey, originally from
Scotland, has become director of golf.
Formby Hall Golf Club is undergoing a £10 million investment and is
about to become home to the country’s only PGA National Residential
Golf Academy. The resort will feature a new 62 bedroom hotel
overlooking the parkland and 18-hole course, a new nine hole par
three golf course and short game practise area, as well as a
destination spa and extensive conferencing and events facilities.
Director of marketing, Gaynor Black is heading up the strategic
marketing and re-branding process of Formby Hall Golf Club. Former
brand manager with De Vere Hotels and Resorts, including the
prestigious De Vere Belfry, Gaynor brings to the team more than
twenty years’ experience in sales and marketing of luxury resorts,
hotels and leisure parks.
New general manager, Ged Heaslip, will oversee the transition from
golf club to four star resort and spa and will focus on making sure
guests visiting the resort receive the best possible experience and
customer service. He brings a wealth of experience from Mere Golf &
Country Club and more recently Pleasure Beach, Blackpool.
Expanding the golf element of the resort is Chris Patey. Chris joins
Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa as director of golf from Palmerston
House and City West Hotel, the official headquarters of the PGA in
Ireland. Chris will play a key role in driving golf tourism and
developing the new PGA Golf Academy, which is set to open up the
game to a wider audience and nurture and develop young talent.
The first phase of the re-development, which includes more
contemporary restaurant, bars and lounge areas, is due to be
unveiled in May. The second phase, featuring the new short game
pitching area and nine hole par three golf course is due to open in
the summer. Guests can experience the new hotel from August and the
spa and leisure club will be launched in towards the end of the
year, before the PGA golf academy itself is unveiled in December
2007.
Michael Hanlon, managing director of Maghull Developments - owner of
Formby Hall Golf Club - welcomed the new additions to the team. He
said:- “Gaynor, Ged and Chris all bring different areas of
expertise needed to help make Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa the
number one choice for golf, corporate days, weddings, spa and
leisure breaks.
We’re investing £10 million in this scheme and we are determined to
make sure we can offer the best possible resort experience. As well
as recruiting new specialist staff, we’re investing in our current
staff, many of whom have been with us since we opened our doors ten
years ago and are as valuable to us now as they have ever been.”
Gaynor Black, director of marketing, commented:- “Ged, Chris
and I have all been made to feel very welcome by staff and members
and everyone is geared up for the exciting changes ahead. We’re
really looking forward to being a part of the team that will
position Formby Hall Golf Resort & Spa as one of the finest resorts
in the north.”
