powerhouse quartet featuring electrifying hard bop, insurgent world
jazz explorations and heartfelt beautiful ballads Atzmon style!

The
rhythm is gonna get you!!
AS part of the
Southport International Jazz Festival, Cuba’s leading group Sierra
Maestra return to the UK after the disappointment of last year’s
cancellation, to showcase their authentic Cuban roots music, from
son to salsa, at Southport Arts Centre on Friday 1 June 2007.
Sierra Maestra are among the leading exponents of one of the world’s
most seductive forms and one of the greatest dance bands in the
known universe. Their fusion of African rhythm, Spanish melody with
its roots in Cuban son is music that appeals to all ages and is
enjoying a worldwide popularity. Celebrating over 30 years
together, the 8 piece are no strangers to tragedy, when in 2005 lead
singer and founder member, José Antonio Rodríguez, died suddenly.
Determined to continue the legacy, the group auditioned and found a
worthy replacement in new singer, Jesús Bello Díaz, who won ‘sonero
of the year’ in 1995 in the annual Cuban national competition.
Sierra Maestra are an Experience (with a capital E!)
