Southport Mum finds out daughter will receive an MBE
SOUTHPORT Mum Wyn Thorn was given
the fantastic news that here daughter, who came from Southport, but
now lives in London, is to receive the MBE.
Bernadette Ann Duncan will receive the
award during the Queens Birthday Honours ceremony later this year.
She was awarded the honour for Services to Higher Education at
London City university where she is the Head of Security.
Born in Southport as Bernadette Rimmor
and went to Christ the King and was married at St Georges Church,
Lord Street, Southport to Ken Duncan.
Wyn who is soon to be 80 and a
very well known figure her self around Southport told us that:-
"It is so nice to know that she has
received recognition for her work. It has been a very hard
time for her as of late and she has had to deal with some very sad
incidents that have been high profile.
It was such a shock to her she had
got it... and a very nice surprise to me that my daughter is thought
of so highly. You could not ask for a beater 80th birthday
present, than seeing your daughter awarded such an honour.
I am so pleased!" |
Letters To Editor:- "Why Are We Loosing The Historic Rides?"
"AS SOUTHPORT'S Pleasureland is
being flattened by bulldozers, it leaves me thinking, what will
happen if the new rides do not stay?
If I read your report, in last
weeks edition, correctly, then the new
park to be built for this summer, but
it is only temporary!
If you are correct the theme park
rides that are not temporary and are still on the Pleasureland
site are now being packed up and shipped off site to make way for
the temporary new rides? This is mad!
I go back to what I just said... if the new rides are taken away
again, what will happen to Pleasureland after 2007?
Pleasureland was getting run down,
but the old rides are what people loved about it, and it had an
historical impact on the town...
How can we keep the tag line ''A
Classic Resort'' with out the classic rides Pleasureland?
These rides are known world wide
and got awards yearly from all over the world.
Also why are we loosing the old
historic rides to another town?
Why are we knocking down all the
classic buildings as well in Southport, like the old cinema that was
the first purpose built cinema out side London?
This is mad for a town that says
it is a classic resort on its advertisement literature!"
