The 2007 Southport
Summer Classics

THE Southport Summer Classics
where very impressive. The event is held on Victoria
Park, Southport, better known as the location for the
Southport Flowershow, but this event is growing in
popularity with many across the North West. The event
has one a massive stage keeping the band dry but the
audience is in the open air and on the grass in
picnic-style. Seats are optional if you bring them and
the event has a fantastic family atmosphere about it.
Despite the wind and the threatening rain, the weather
on the first night the event was a massive success. The
thousands of concert goers where not put off and where
treated to a fantastic show by The Australian Pink Floyd
band, complete with video projection, smoke and lazars!
Not to be out done the following night, Saturday 28 July
had beater weather and yes at the end a firework
display! Performing on that night was the Royal
Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra who where accompanied
by up and coming vocalist Alfie Boe. The relaxing music
at times was a bit quite, but all in all well worth the
ticket price!
On Sunday the atmosphere matched the sunny sky above...
The night’s music was preformed by Jools Holland and his
Rhythm & Blues Band with special guests Lulu and Marc
Almond.
The event was a music lovers dream, covering nearly all
musical tastes. Well done to all involved especially
Sefton Tourism Department for putting on such a stunning
set of concerts. This was a fantastic start to the 2007
Summer Holiday season for the town’s events program.
