The British Country Music Hall of Fame

THE induction ceremony which is set to take place on 22 September 2007 at Fort San Antone, Great Birchwood Country Park, Lytham St Annes, is going to be huge. The event has captured the imagination of the British Country music-loving fans from all over the UK, including Ireland.

Established last year with three inductees the response has been fantastic. This year there will be a further 8 inductees who will be recognised for their services to the British Country music scene whether they be promoter, musician, artist or contributor. Contrary to common beliefs, the British Country music scene is massive with tens of thousands travelling to festivals and clubs throughout the UK. There are also over 400 clubs listed each month in Cross Country magazine.

Award winning broadcaster, the legend from Lancashire, Joe Fish, will be presenting the wards. Amongst the artists appearing will be Buchanan the new band from Manchester who have had tremendous receptions at all the festivals this year - (quote - ŒJoe Fish was the man who kick started our band into the UK when he first started playing our album¹ - Mark Wilkinson the lead singer tells us the cd then went on to win Album of the Year at the UK Radio Awards last February).

We expect a lot of the bands who are not gigging to be present on that night, as will Mrs Keith Manifold and her family, Ben Rees' wife, Lil will be there too, along with Ian Cal Ford (who is also performing) all accepting the inductions that were made last year.

There is a full programme of bands and artists playing Friday evening, all day Saturday and, of course, on Sunday.

The full Cross Country music magazine team will there plus some of the team from our sister magazine Up Country and DJs and many reporters from around the UK have also expressed an interest.

ST LUKE'S CHURCH, FORMBY TO HOLD 'NIGHT OF PRAYER'

THE Policy Committee of the PCC has recommended that a 'Night Of Prayer' should be held from 9.00pm, Friday, 7 September 2007 to 9.00am, Saturday, in St. Lukes Church, Formby.

St Lukes Church PCC said that:- "We need to seek God’s direction for our church. This follows from our outreach in the Range area and the command we have to “make disciples. It is now 5 months since Alison retired and we are still without a vicar and we need God’s direction to help us find one. We must pray that our Patron, the Bishop of Liverpool, will be guided by the Holy Spirit in sending a suitable person to St. Luke’s for our consideration, and that we will be guided in making the correct choice."

All members of the congregation, and any one else interested, are invited to attend.

FINE WINE AT THE LIVERPOOL FOOD LOVERS FESTIVAL

THE UK loves a chilled glass of wine. Some 1.8 billion bottles of vino were imported in the UK alone.

Although wine lovers know their French from their Italian wines, not a lot know about the wine grown in their own backyard.

To educate people on English wines NW Fine Food have linked with one of the most famous restaurants in Liverpool the Side Door on Hope Street. Owners Sheila Benson and Sean Miller will be hosting a ‘Wine Matching Workshop’ on Wednesday 5 September 2007 from 7.30pm.

Wine Lovers will be able to enjoy a delectable 3-course meal of modern Italian cuisine matched with 3 delicious English wines, from Tanners Wine Merchants, to compliment each course. While enjoying the evening there will also be the opportunity to learn more about English wine from Jerome Opillard, a celebrated wine expert from Tanners.

Sheila Benson from the Side Door comments:- “Currently less than 1% of wine bought in the UK is English or Welsh but more and more farmers in the UK are diversifying into wine production. There are some excellent English wines available and we are hoping to highlight these during the evening.”

Places are only £30 per head including 3 courses and wine tasting, but are limited so hurry.

To book contact Sheila Benson at the Side Door on 0151 707 7888.
