Celebration at Neonatal Unit as baby reaches 100 days old
CELEBRATIONS
were in order recently at the Neonatal Unit at Ormskirk & District
General Hospital when one of their residents reached the ripe old
age of 100 days.
"We were concerned she wouldn't reach 100 hours when she was born",
said Jodie, mother of baby Jaxx.
Jaxx Harris was born on 17 May 2007 weighing just 1lb 7oz (652
grams) after just 24 weeks and 4 days, or over 15 weeks premature.
Although Jodie (25) and her husband Seb Harris live in Cemetery
Road, Southport and had planned to have their new baby at Ormskirk.
However, because the
neo-natal unit at Ormskirk would not normally take babies born at
less than 28 weeks because of their highly specialised needs and
because the Liverpool Woman's Hospital could not take her, Jaxx was
born in Glan Clwyd Hospital.
"Because she was so tiny. She has already had a heart operation when
she was just four weeks old and laser eye surgery.
All the staff
at all the hospitals we have been in have been absolutely wonderful
and we could not have asked for more help. It feels really strange
to have watched her grow up in a way most mum's don't, and it's odd
to think of her reaching 100 days old five days before she was due
to be born.
When Jaxx was born she was given a teddy that was as big as she was,
it was really quite frightening, but she is obviously a very
determined young lady and all the family are just looking forward to
Jaxx coming home, especially her three sisters." explained
Jodie.
Jaxx has three sisters, Chloe aged 6, Deonne aged 4 and 2 year old
Amber. Both Jodie and Seb (who may be known as Seb Turner to some of
his friends) are from large families and Seb was himself premature.
