EXPERT PANEL AT NACC GROUP FIRST MEETING
THE Preston,
Blackburn and District NACC (National Association of Crohn’s and
Colitis) Group will be holding their 1st meeting at the Tickled
Trout Hotel, Preston New Road, Preston on Saturday, 10 November,
2007 at 2.00 pm.
Entitled ‘Living with Crohn’s and Colitis – Today and Tomorrow’
the meeting will be in the format of an Expert Panel. On the panel
will be Dr Keith Leiper, Consultant Gastroenterologist from the
Royal Liverpool Hospital, author of the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)
audit; Mr Nigel Scott, Consultant Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal
Preston Hospital; and Dr Charles Grimley, Gastroenterologist at
Burnley Hospital. Dieticians and specialist nurses will also be
there. The event is open both to members and non-members.
Dr Grimley who is the
Group’s Medical Advisor said:- “I feel that a strong local
group is essential and can offer an environment where worries can be
shared, self knowledge promoted and which will empower members to
play an active part in the management of their condition”.
David Dunn, the Blackburn Rovers footballer, has agreed to be the
Group’s Patron.
The National
Association for Colitis and Crohn's Disease (NACC) brings together
people of all ages who have Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease,
their families and the health professionals involved in their care.
These 2 illnesses are forms of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and
they affect about 1 in 400 people in the United Kingdom. The Group
aims to raise awareness of the disease, provide information and
support and to raise funds for both local and national needs.

Local Scouts Light Up
THOUSANDS
of candles, hundreds jam jars, and a endless supply of matches go
into making an exciting weekend of imagination, creativity and
bright display made by Scouts across the North West joining together
on a camp called ‘The Feast of Lanterns’.
The camp gave the opportunity for over 800 young Scouts aged 10 and
upwards, to take part in a competition to create the most
imaginative and colourful displays of light, 2007 is Scouting
Centenary year so many displays included Birthday cakes, Birthday
party’s, the future 100 years and there was even a 50ft candle lit
version of the Scout sign.
The displays by the Scouts were made by recycling tin cans, jam
jars, cardboard boxes and plenty of sticky tape. Using these
materials along with candles, lamps and even electric lighting.
Create impressive displays and amazing shows for the judges and
public to enjoy.
This year’s winning displays. In the traditional candle lit category
was the 9th Formby. Novice category was won by the 12th Crosby,
particular worth a mention that these Scouts organised the whole
display and camp without any help from leaders. Finally for the
older 14 to 18 year old category was won by the Picton Explorer unit,
know as the Rocket ESU for there 50ft illuminated Scouting Sign.
The “Feast of Lanterns” celebrated its 60th year, and has
traditionally marked the end of the camping season. Today Scouts
continue to take part in adventures all year round, though sun, rain
and even snow!
Organisers Ken Smith said:- “This year has been extra special,
with Scouting enjoys its 100th Birthday, and the Feast also
celebrating 60th years. It’s been a double whammy with fantastic
displays by all!”

MENSA OFFERS IQ TEST IN LIVERPOOL
MENSA is offering people in the
Liverpool area a chance to find out their own score and to see if
they can join 24,000 other members of the High IQ Society.
A supervised test session has been organised on 17 November
(11.00am) at the Express by Holiday Inn Hotel for anyone interested
in finding out their IQ score. Local people are invited to contact

booking is invited to reserve a place for a friend or family member
to take the same test at no extra charge – that’s 2 people for £15.
