Young
People Party for Red Cross and raise £1500!!!
TWO groups of
young people from across Liverpool have organised fundraising
evening party events, to raise money for British Red Cross. The
first party event took place on Friday 16 November 2007 at Pilgrim
Bar in Liverpool. Leon Gomez and friends organised a fantastic event
at the venue and raised nearly £700 through entry fees, sponsored
chest wax for brave Greig Campbell (ouch!!) and raffles. The money
raised will go to help people in Mexico, after the devastating
recent floods that affected Tabasco and other areas in Mexico. The
funds will be used to provide these families with food as well as
relief items (hygiene articles, kitchen utensils, mosquito nets and
jerry cans) over the next four months, as well as to replenish vital
emergency stocks of the Mexican Red Cross to help with shelters and
relief supplies.
The second party
event took place at Fairfield Police Club on Thursday 6 December
2007 and was organised by a group of sixth form students from
Bluecoat School in Wavertree. The evening was organised by Kahra
Larty, Becky Leddy, Nathalie Connell, Kaya Melia, Siobhan Christian
and Patrick Taft as part of their enrichment project to help the
local community. They sold tickets and everyone DRESSED IN RED for
Red Cross. A whopping £815 was raised, a fantastic achievement!
Alexis Fairclough, Senior Fundraiser for British Red Cross said:-
"Thanks again to Leon, Greig and Adam for agreeing to organise
another party night in January to raise funds for the Bangladesh
Cyclone Appeal.
I am so proud of both groups. They have worked really hard for the
past two months. It takes a lot of organising and determination to
put on events such as these, and these two groups of young people
and their supporters have pulled out all the stops to ensure their
Red Cross party nights were a success and to make a difference to
someone, across the World and around the corner. I was very
impressed by the amount of work and effort put in by the students
from Bluecoat School, and having attended on the evening, want to
say a thank you to the teaching staff that came along to support
their event. With disasters striking more frequently these days, Red
Cross needs your support so we can be there to help someone in
crisis. If you can help, or if you have been inspired to raise much
needed funds, please call me on 0151 702 5061.”
