Regional switch for traffic officer boss
THE Highways
Agency has appointed Jamie Carr as its new Network Operations
Manager in charge of the North West Traffic Officer Service -
responsible for keeping drivers across the region on the move.
Jamie, 36, has replaced former Greater Manchester Police chief
superintendent Dave Ryder who joined the Highways Agency in 2005 to
lead the launch of the new North West Traffic Officer Service from
the hi-tech North West Regional Control Centre just off the M6 at
Newton-le-Willows.
Mr Ryder left the Highways Agency in September to take up a policing
post in the Caribbean.
Jamie has come to the region from Nottingham where he led the
introduction of the Highways Agency's East Midlands Traffic Officer
Service.
He joined the Highways Agency's new motorway service in 2005 after
13 years with the RAC where he performed a number of operational
roles including patrol and call centre management.
Mr Carr says he is seeing his move to the North West, a bigger and
busier motorway region than the East Midlands, as a great new
challenge.
Mr Carr:- "It is a huge opportunity to get my teeth into a
region which is over twice the size of the one I had been managing
both in terms of resource and motorway miles.
Of course there is a great deal of good work going on here in the
North West already and I wanted to be a part of that success story
as well as taking on the challenge of developing the operation
further as a regional centre for excellence setting the standards of
performance by which other regions follow us.
I am also very much looking forward to working with my new
colleagues in making our motorways a safer and more reliable place
for drivers across the North West."
Mr Carr is a 'designated' Traffic Officer himself. And he said:-
"Where time permits I'll be donning my uniform and jumping into a
Traffic Officer vehicle and getting out there on the front line. I
will also be a regular visitor in the control room."
The North West Traffic Officer Service was launched by the Highways
Agency in Cheshire in September 2005 and then to Greater Manchester,
Lancashire, Merseyside and Cumbria in 2006.
There are some 300 uniformed Traffic Officers in the North West.
Their role is to keep drivers on the move by tackling incidents
which cause congestion - either by patrolling high visibility four
wheel drive vehicles from six 'outstations' or working
in the Regional Control Centre to set electronic signs, monitor the
network of motorway CCTV cameras and answer emergency telephone
calls from drivers.

Under 14 - Skem Rangers 3 - 0
Formby JSC
This was a tight game with both teams holding their own, the battle
being mainly played in the midfield where Rangers Man of the Match
Ben Maddocks had a terrific match.
Throughout the first half Rangers had a
couple of chances but the first goal came from a corner that fell to
Ryan Quine who struck home. Right on half time Rangers doubled their
lead when Matty Blasbery won a tackle and put the ball perfectly
into the path of James Edgar who beat the last man and stroked the
ball into the net.
In the second half Formby came out
fighting and had a couple of chances but the Rangers defence held
firm.
Half way through the second period Tom Barlow put a ball wide to
James Edgar who crossed to the far post for Dale Slater to get the
third and final goal of the match.
Man of The Match was Ben Maddocks.
Under 11- Ainsdale 0 Southport
FC Juniors 9
Southport continued were they left off
last week when they were clinical in front of goal, they came up
against a well organised Ainsdale team who competed for every ball
as if their life depended on it.
Ainsdale set their stall out to contain
Southport and in the early stages this seemed to be working until a
moment of magic by Dan Thompson who unleashed a shot that flew past
the keeper before he could see it. This did the trick for Southport
who played some great football through out the team and was very
impressive to watch by supporters of both teams. Jorge Jones, James
Smith, Tom Rogers and Will Wilson all benefiting by netting through
out the half with Wilson's goal being the pick of the bunch when he
beat three Ainsdale players and rattled a shot inside the far post
just before the interval.
Ainsdale came out with a point to prove and pushed Southport back
into their own half only some great defending by Sam Johnson, Oliver
Cunningham, Robbie Handsford and Robson Baldwin kept a clean sheet
for Southport who built on this outstanding defending and pushed
forward. Arron Ken on the wing for Southport put in a superb
performance and got the goal his efforts deserved, Gary Grier hit a
shot from outside the box that eluded everyone and crept inside the
far post to add to Southport’s total. Ryan Pytel came on as a
replacement for Jorge Jones and as Ainsdale tired he used his
undoubted speed and strength to score a great goal when he raced
clear and hit a thunderbolt of a shot that flew into the roof of the
net.
The game was fizzling
out when Arron Ken again beat the offside trap and was upended
inside the box for a penalty. The unsung hero of the past 4 seasons
goalkeeper Callum Jones who has been outstanding in that time
stepped up to hammer the penalty and his first goal for Southport
into the net to joyous celebrations from his team mates. There were
many candidates for Man of the Match but the award this week had to
be Dan Thompson for a truly outstanding display of passing and
shooting with his cultured left foot.
Ainsdale B 0 Town Green 9
After a good,
convincing win last week, confidence was running high amongst the
Town Green team. They took control of this match straight from the
off and some neat interplay and controlled passing gave them the
upper hand in this game.
The ever improving Josh Donson had a
great first half and started the scoring off for Town Green with a
magnificently timed half volley into the top coroner. This revved
Town Green up a gear and a second goal soon followed from Connor
Tierney who capitalised on a rebound from the Ainsdale keeper.
A third goal from
Jack McGregor was a result of a fantastic six pass move, which Jack
finished off superbly by hitting a high shot past the keeper. Two
more excellently taken goals followed from the effective Connor
Tierney to give him his hattrick and making the half time score 5-0.
The second half followed in similar vein, with Town Green dominating
the play. Jack McGregor scored his second and Callum Birchall,
through some excellent play, scored 2 more.
Theo Chrisokhou scored an awesome goal from the edge of the area and
Connor Stockwell got on the scoresheet by scoring a well taken goal,
which was just reward for his tireless contribution to the game.
Town Green were strong in midfield and many of their attacks were as
a result of some hard work from George Newell, Kieron Turner, who
battled for every ball, Jonathan Campbell, who was unlucky not to
score himself, and Josh Donson who played out of his skin today.
Defensively, Jake Beesley coped well with bursts of pressure from
Ainsdale and was ably assisted by Danny Pugh, JJ McNicholas and Rian
Eades, who had a good, solid game.
Despite the scoreline, Ainsdale worked hard defensively and some
particularly fine saves from their keeper, Matty, restored their
confidence when needed. But for their strength and resilience, the
scoreline could have been a lot higher.
Town Green had a good few contenders for
Man of the Match today but one player had the edge. Jack McGregor.
He had an outstanding game, worked hard and was a pleasure to watch
on the ball. He has scored some magnificent goals this season and is
a pivotal member of the team. Well done Jack.
Under 10 - Southport Trinity 1
Formby JSC B 5
On a damp and windy day both teams put
on a magnificent showpiece to keep the fans of both sides warm.
It took Formby JSCB a few minutes to
find their feet as Southport Trinity pushed for the opener when
their number 21 fired in a low shot but Shaun Jackson-Guy saved well
at his near post. It was the wake up call that Formby JSCB needed
and they slowly began to get a foothold on the game.
Southport Trinity almost took the lead on 10 minutes when their
number 12 had a shot from distance but it was well blocked by
Matthew Lloyd. Then came the moment that the away fans were not
expecting as the Formby JSCB defence allowed Southport Trinity's
number 21 to run rings around them and slot the ball past the keeper
to put the home side 1-0 up right on half time.
In the second half it was Formby JSCB who ran the show from start to
finish creating countless chances. Ben Hitchmough and Sam Carragher
were linking up superbly on the right wing and it was through their
interplay that set up Rhoss De Andrade whose shot was straight down
the keeper’s throat.
Finally Formby JSC B got their reward in the 25th minute. Ben
Hitchmough did well to find Sam Carragher who released the ball
first time straight into the path of Rhoss De Andrade who kept his
cool and slammed the ball past the keeper to even things up at 1-1.
It was what Formby JSCB thoroughly deserved.
Then came the goal of the season so far. Shaun Jackson-Guy picked up
the ball and launched it downfield, it bounced once and little Sam
Carragher must have felt 6 feet tall as he out jumped the Southport
Trinity defence and cheekily back-headed the ball, it looped over
the advancing keeper and into the back of the net to make it 1-2.
Just a minute later Max Robinson grabbed
his first goal of the season. Ben Hitchmough threaded the ball
through to Rhoss De Andrade but his shot was well blocked, the ball
came out to Max who rifled the ball past the keeper and into the
back of the net to make it 1-3 with just nine minutes remaining.
With just two minutes remaining Formby JSCB put the gloss on their
second half performance when Ben Hitchmough and Sam Carragher linked
well yet again down the right and Sam Carragher slotted the ball
past the keeper to make it 1-4. Even then Formby JSCB weren't
finished and in the final minute they won a corner. Kaleb Thompson
swung it into the penalty area but it missed everybody and the ball
somehow nestled in the bottom corner of the net to complete the
scoring.
Under 9 - Jaguars 3 Ainsdale 1
Jags started the game really strongly
and some good passing created a few half chances early on. The
Ainsdale defence, led by Tamsin, held strong and got tackles and
blocks in when needed. Ainsdale were always a threat on the break
and opened the scoring following a Jags corner. They cleared the
ball and pressed loads of players forward, the ball was passed to
the Ainsdale striker who kept his cool and finished really well past
the outcoming Reece Ashall.
Jags came back stronger and equalised soon after. Some good play saw
the ball passed into the area. A scramble for the ball, left
Ainsdale unable to clear and Ryan Ashall stuck out his foot to put
the ball passed Jamie Fisher in the Ainsdale goal.
Jags pressure continued and soon after
they took the lead, Ryan Ashall finding the net with a powerful shot
that took a big deflection off Tamsin and past the keeper.
The second half saw more of the same and Jags held a solid defence
with Zayn Noray and Kyle Dawes shutting out any chances that
Ainsdale tried to create. Some excellent passing by Jags down the
right, saw the ball crossed in and Joshua Middleton was on hand to
score his first goal for the team and put the match beyond Ainsdale.
This was a great game, keenly contested
and in wet and windy conditions both teams showed that teams at the
bottom end of this league can play good football. Well done to
everyone involved.
Ormskirk WE 0 Southport FC
Juniors 2
This was a battle against the weather as well as a battle against
each other. Both teams battled on a waterlogged pitch to play good
football and the game was a scrappy affair.
Ormskirk had some early chances with
Jamie Barnes forcing the Southport keeper to make a superb save
after a great corner from Matthew Woods. Southport had chances
themselves with Ormskirk not clearing there lines well and Adam
Jones was forced to make a string of saves to keep the score level.
Southport broke the
deadlock with a counter-attack and this was to be the story for the
rest of the game with Ormskirk pushing to equalise.
Ormskirk’s man of the match Tom Bigland was their main threat with
some fine runs. Jordan Patterson and Matthew Woods worked hard and
Jamie Barnes came close to an equaliser with a fine shot, but it was
Southport that scored late on to seal the victory and Ormskirk could
have no complaints as they never got to grips with Southport’s
forwards who always looked dangerous on the break. This was just not
Ormskirk’s day however they did give 100%, as did Southport, in a
game played with a great spirit. |
