LORD ATTENBOROUGH CALLS FOR UK PUBLIC TO VOTE FOR THEIR FILM OF THE
YEAR AS PART OF THE RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH FILM AWARDS 2008
CINEMA Days,
the trade events for UK regional film journalists, today announces a
new public vote for film of the year.
Regional film critics and journalists around the UK are currently
voting in The Richard Attenborough Film Awards. Results of the 6
categories are due to be revealed on 31 January 2008, when a 7th
category, the public vote for film of the year, will be launched in
leading regional newspapers, magazines and websites. It is the
first time that a national public vote for film of the year has been
co-ordinated and delivered via a range of UK regional media outlets.
The public vote will be live from 31 January 2008 to 15 February
2008.
Readers will be directed to vote online only at
focusonmovies.co.uk. By virtue of
participating in the vote, they will be entered into a special draw
with 25 luxury prizes. Each prize is a set of indulgent gifts
exclusively provided by a cluster of exciting European film and
lifestyle brands, named today by Cinema Days as the Official
Partners of The Richard Attenborough Film Awards 2008.
The Official Partners are:- L’Occitane, L’Artisan du Chocolat,
[comfort zone], SIP beauty water, Campo Viejo, Swarovski and Carnaby
Street’s Bnevertoobusytobebeautiful. The 25 prize winners will also
receive a selection of DVDs, a Paperchase diary and a Vintage
Classics copy of Graham Greene’s novel, Brighton Rock. First
published in 1938, Brighton Rock was famously filmed nine years
later with a breakthrough leading performance as racketeer Pinkie
Brown by Richard Attenborough.
In addition to the Official Partners, Cinema Days announces two
Media Partners for The Richard Attenborough Film Awards 2008: Press
Gazette, the trade publication for journalists, and Total Film
magazine.
Lord Attenborough CBE said:- “Although there are more and more
ways to watch films, the cinema alone brings audiences together to
enjoy a shared experience.
I am delighted to support this initiative
which brings local media together and allows the public across the
UK to share in a vote for the film of the year.
I look forward to
the result but meanwhile urge everyone to consider their choices and
if I may add… get voting!”

Chance for people in Liverpool for find out more about crippling
arthritis
PEOPLE in
Liverpool suffering from the painful condition of arthritis are
invited to a free arthritis information evening to be held at
University Hospital Aintree, in Fazakerley on Wednesday 30 January 2008.
Arthritis is one of the single biggest causes of long-term
disability, affecting more than 7 million adults and children, yet
it lacks the high public profile of other more life-threatening
diseases. Now medical research charity the Arthritis Research
Campaign (arc) is aiming to raise the profile of the condition
itself and how the charity is helping patients in Liverpool, with a
series of information and fundraising events throughout the year.
The purpose of the evening is to let local people know what arc does
in the area, its future plans and to offer expert advice and
information about latest treatments and therapies for patients.
Guest speakers will include the charity’s medical director,
Professor Alan Silman, and rheumatologists from the University of
Liverpool, Professor Robert Moots, who heads up arc’s research in
the city, and Dr Tom Kennedy, director of clinical studies at
University Hospital.
“The evening will be the perfect opportunity for arthritis
sufferers, their friends and family and general practitioners to
learn more about what we do locally and the latest developments in
arthritis research and treatments,” explained arc area
appeals manager for Liverpool, Ruth Owen. “arc’s work in
Merseyside is having a profound and very positive impact on the many
people who suffer the ongoing pain of arthritis. arc has
had an increasing presence in Liverpool with our research work over
the last ten years, and we currently invest more than £750,000 on
projects ranging from research relating to osteoporosis,
osteoarthritis and the role of the immune system in childhood lupus
to funding the post of a senior clinical lecturer in rheumatology.”
The charity is also funding a national clinical trial, involving
rheumatoid arthritis patients from Universty Hospital, Aintree, and
Arrowe Park Hospital in Upton, on the Wirral, to find out if
cholesterol-busting drugs known as statins can help reduce heart
attacks in these patients, who are at higher risk than healthy
people.
For tickets and directions to the free arthritis information
evening, to be held at the Clinical Sciences Centre for Research and
Education at University Hospital, Aintree, on January 30 at 7pm,
