Under 11 - Town Green 9 Ainsdale 0
In weather conditions
more befitting kite flying than football, Town Green faced Ainsdale
in their second encounter of the season.
Town Green, with strong winds in their favour first half, started
brightly and confidently and were soon on the scoresheet with a
magnificent goal from Jonathan Campbell, who had the honour of
scoring TG's 100th goal of the season. A second goal followed
straight after with a brilliant goal from the diminutive Connor
Tierney. Connor Tierney was again involved in TG's third goal, when
he fed a perfectly timed pass through for Danny Pugh to blast past
Ainsdale's keeper for his first goal of the season. TG's fourth goal
came in the form of a beautiful free kick from Jack McGregor who
floated the ball high past
the keeper and into the top corner. The hardworking Callum Birchall
scored TG's fifth, with a burst of speed through the Ainsdale
defence to drive the ball past the oncoming keeper and into the back
of the net. Further first half goals followed from George Newell and
Connor Tierney.
The second half followed the same pattern, with TG dominating play
but this time battling against strong winds. Despite atrocious
weather conditions, further TG goals came from Jonathan Campbell,
George Newell and Connor Tierney. A perfectly timed corner was
converted by Theo Chrisokhou who headed beautifully past the keeper.
Anthony Caunce made a brilliant run from the back, right through
midfield and fed a perfectly timed pass through to Kieron Turner,
who beat the offside trap to coolly finish.
Town Green's defence was like a brick wall and despite some good
moves, Ainsdale could not penetrate the barrier of Jake Beesley,
Rian Eades, JJ McNicholas and Danny Pugh. Their concentration and
consistency is beyond compare at present.
Josh Donson and Connor Stockwell worked hard in midfield and were as
dependable as ever. Both were unlucky not to score themselves, but
instead created chance after chance for their attackers by feeding
some perfectly timed passes through.
Defensively Ainsdale battled and battled. Their goalkeeper worked
hard and made some great saves, but on the day, Town Green were too
much in their current form and despite their best endeavours, there
was nothing they could do to stop the scoring. Ainsdale never gave
up trying and deserve recognition for their perseverance and
determination.
Yet again team spirit and camaraderie were the order of the day for
TG and some unselfish and thoughtful play saw a team who have total
respect for each other and who are totally committed in all that
they do. They are a credit to manager, George Chrisokhou, and
coaches Kieron Turner and Chris Carlsen.
Town Green's Man of the Match was Jonathan Campbell. Today he played
as defender, midfielder and scorer. He has really turned his game
around and played with bravery and commitment. Well done Jonathan.
Well played Town Green under 11 boys. You are a credit to us all.
Birkdale B 2 Redgate Rovers Yellow 6
Another blustery day
and another win for the Yellows.
The Yellows settled well with the wind behind them and set about
their task of opening up a lead before half time. They were soon
obliged by Man of the match and hat trick hero Craig Lowe who within
fifteen minutes had the Yellows two nil up, expertly finishing off
good moves involving Sam Holcroft and Ben Davies up front.
Birkdale however were not going to be blown away and came right back
at the Yellows scoring a well taken goal following a break away.
This unsettled the Yellows who for the next five minutes were under
pressure, however, this was soon relieved following a swift move
from one end of the pitch to the other when James Smith latched onto
a long ball from the back and neatly lobbed the Birkdale keeper. The
Yellows 3were spurred on to scoring their fourth goal ending the
half with a three goal advantage.
As expected Birkdale used the wind to get back at the Yellows and
eventually broke through the Yellows defence to score their second.
The Yellows rallied after this playing some good passing football
and were able to add a further two goals the last by David Foster
who calmly chose his spot and slotted the ball into the back of the
net.
The team should be pleased with their display in particular the
defence and goal keeper for the day, Carl Sutcliffe, who had to
contend with a very good attacking Birkdale trio and the wind.
Southport FC Juniors 5 Formby B 1
Southport and Formby
B had their hands full with the gales that threatened to spoil the
match, it was a case of which team could master the conditions would
have the advantage. Southport had the wind in the first half and
created numerous chances but some great defending and goalkeeping
denied them the breakthrough. Southport built up from the back with
Sam Johnson, Rob Handsford, Oliver Cunningham and the impressive
Robson Baldwin in commanding form in defence. Formby had a game plan
to defend against the wind and hit Southport on the break but
Southport had other idea's, Tom Rogers and Anthony Brown linked up
to set up a chance for Owen Drummond who's shot ricochet of a Formby
defender to Sam Johnson on the right side of the box who unleashed a
shot high into the far side of the net midway through the half. This
put a spring into Southport's game and Anthony Brown had a 25 yarder
that rattled the bar and Ryan Pytel went close with an effort just
before the interval.
The roles were reversed and Southport had the wind in their faces so
manager Richard Bainbridge made a tactical change and this did the
trick. Southport reverted to their passing game and kept the ball on
the floor, within minutes the chances began to appear one after the
other. Zack Evans scored his first goal for his club when he latched
on to a loose ball in the box and fired a shot past the on coming
keeper. Formby had their chances but with Southport's defence in
sparkling form it was a mistake that let in Formby when no one
reacted to a ball in the box and a Formby striker shot wide of
Callum Jones for a well deserved goal. Straight from the kick off
Southport pushed forward and Baldwin sent a cross into the box to
find Owen Drummond to lob the ball over the keeper and into the net.
The game was ending when Southport created two more goals from Jorge
Jones and James Smith, in particular Smith's goal was typical of the
"fox in the box" when he coolly raced on to a long ball and chipped
the keeper from the edge of the box. There were many contenders for
the Man of the Match from both teams but for his work rate and
strength on and off the ball it was Robson Baldwin who stole the
show with an outstanding performance.
Formby A 0 Birkdale J 3
The first meeting for
these two clubs commenced with a high energy none stop tempo with
both sides showing a firm commitment to achieve victory. For the
first quarter of the first half the game was evenly matched.
Birkdale United J's midfielders Liam Aindow and Luke Williams worked
extremely hard in keeping possession and driving forward. As the
first half progressed Birkdale United J created a couple of chances
and Dom Platts attempt was deemed offside. Formby being a strong
side did not let up and Sam Howard and Jack Young were strong in
defending the Birkdale goal and keeper Dan Griffiths put in a solid
performance. The latter stages of this half saw Birkdale J force
Formby to defend a bit more and after 25 minutes of play Greg
Rawsthorne scored a well deserved goal, putting Birkdale J into the
lead. Birkdale went into half time 1 goal to the good.
The second half saw the appearance of keeper Nick Knight who was put
to work straight away. Formby pressured for an equaliser but some
sharp defending by James Frew and Scott Bolton made it difficult for
them. Lewis Burrows who had put in a fantastic performance, gave way
to Harry Losty and Liam Jackson seized an opportunity and scored a
second for Birkdale J, Formby did not give up and fought on, and Dom
Platts scored a third goal for Birkdale J. Formby continued to work
hard and forced keeper Nick Knight to make some excellent saves and
a clean sheet for both the Birkdale Keepers. Birkdale J winning by 3
goals.
This was excellent team performance from Birkdale J, each player had
a magnificent game and deserved their victory.
Under 14 - Town Green 1-3 Skem Rangers
Both teams knew the
importance of this match, as it was played at high tempo and passion
with some excellent football by both teams. Town Green took the
early initiative making the plays and spreading the ball around
testing the Rangers defence, which stood firm. 15 mins into the half
a break away by Rangers and Paul Bennett squared the ball to James
Edgar to lift the ball over the keeper, 1-0. Town Green pressed on
and had the better of the midfield, a through ball to Jacob
Henderson saw him break away and bring the game level 1-1. Just
before half time Danny Hastings went down the wing and crossed the
ball over to James Edgar who struck a sweet goal to put Rangers into
the lead.
Second half saw several chances for both teams and both keepers were
kept busy. The game was evenly poised when a goalmouth scramble and
a fine save from Luke Weedal pushed the ball out, only to fall to
Rangers Dale Slater to sweep the ball into the net 3-1. Again the
game edged and flowed and with minutes remaining Rangers were
awarded a penalty that Luke Weedal saved.
