Southport FC Juniors A 1 Formby JSC A 2
A great Sunday
morning match with the Juniors entertaining Formby. Southport
started really well doing all the early attacking with C. Rimmer, C.
Harper and J. Edmondson linking up to create chances for L. Harwood,
but it was J. Edmondson who opened the scoring after taking on 2
players before slotting home under the keeper 1.0. Formby then woke
up and started to create chances themselves, some good passing led
to the equalizer with B. Murphy finishing well. The Juniors again
had chances forcing a few corners, but Formby then punished
Southport for not taking there chances scoring after Southport
failed to clear their area leaving the Formby player to tap in.
Formby came out the 2nd half much stronger applying the early
pressure looking to kill the game but J. McCormack and L. Dempster
stood firm, the last 5 mins were tense with Southport looking to get
level, L. Harwood and A. Thorpe bringing 2 great late saves out of
the Formby goalkeeper final whistle went with no further goals
Formby winning 2.1.well done to Man of the Match L. Harwood who ran
his socks off today.
Southport Trinity 1 Ormskirk FC 1
Great to play in the sun again. Great spirit shown by both teams
made for an entertaining game. Ormskirk started the better with
chances falling to Tom Bigland and Matthew Callaghan but it was
Trinity that broke the deadlock against the run of play. A nice move
involving Jordan Patterson and Jamie Barnes was finished off coolly
by Matthew Callaghan. The 2nd half began with Ormskirk doing all the
pressing but the ball came back off the woodwork twice and scrambles
in the six yard box where cleared by some stout defending and brave
keeping by Trinity. Trinity came close to winning the game
themselves late on but that would have been unfair based on attempts
and possession. Jamie Barnes was awarded man of the match for his
tireless running and was unlucky not to score with a header from a
Matthew Woods Corner.

Southport FC Juniors 3 Town Green 4
This eagerly awaited top of the table clash promised a match of
gargantuan proportions and it certainly lived up to all
expectations. It was a credit to every player who participated on a
very difficult pitch, which was suffering from the effects of an
overnight frost. Both teams came out fighting and it was
apparent from the outset that this game was not for the
faint-hearted and that both teams were going for the win.
With a couple of key
players missing, it was Town Green who took the early lead with an
excellent goal from the in-form Connor Stockwell, who made a solo
run from virtually the halfway line and, one on one with the keeper,
Callum Jones, coolly shot into the back of the net. However,
Southport responded almost instantaneously with a brilliant goal
from Owen Drummond d who latched on to a long ball out of the
Southport box and ran the length of the pitch to place his shot wide
of the Town Green keeper to level the scores.
There was nothing to
separate either side and it was just before half time that stalwart
defender Theo Chrisokhou blasted a fantastic shot through a crowd of
players and past the Southport keeper to make the half time score
1-2.
The 2nd half followed
a similar pattern with both sides battling and vying for contention.
It wasn’t long before another goal came along. It looked as though
this goal was going to be in Southport's favour, but a brilliant
triple save from....

......TG goalkeeper, Anthony Caunce, resulted in the ball reaching
Connor Tierney who, through some skilful play in midfield beat 2
Southport players and placed a perfect pass for Connor Stockwell to
run onto and score. 1-3. Town Green's fourth goal was a Connor
Stockwell hatrick. Stockwell beat the offside trap to rush
onto the ball, his long legs beating the Southport keeper and
blasting into the back of the net. 1-4. Southport had it all
to do and brought Ryan Pytel on up front, the extra man made the
difference and Owen Drummond got a break inside the box to wrong
foot the keeper and smash a shot into the corner of the net. This
brought the inevitable late surge for Southport who forced a couple
of corners, Sam Johnson sent a cross into the box to find Oliver
Cunningham who slipped 2 challenges and placed his shot inside the
far post.
With the minutes
ticking away Town Green defended for all their worth and some brave
and articulate play from Rian Eades, George Newell, Theo Chrisokhou
and Jake Beesley kept Southport at bay. Josh Donson, Kieron
Turner, Jack McGregor and Jonathan Campbell battled for every ball
in midfield and Callum Birchall was as effective as ever with some
inspired bursts of speed on the wing, which caused a few problems
for the Southport defenders.
If points could be
secured through sheer ability and endeavour then there was nothing
to separate the two sides. Both sides produced some beautiful and
breathtaking football and it was a shame that one side had to lose
such a hard fought game. However, on this occasion, the win went to
Town Green, they did exactly what was asked of them and played with
commitment and passion. This match was played in good spirit, with
both teams illustrating why they are riding so high in the league.
Well done.
There were many
contenders for Man of the Match with Southport’s Anthony Brown, Tom
Rogers and Oliver Cunningham all giving their usual 110% but for an
all round performance Tom Rogers deserved the award for Southport.
Town Green's man of the match was Connor Stockwell. He played with
authority, dignity and passion. His hatrick left the spectators
spellbound and he proved just why he is an automatic first team
choice.

Skem Rangers 9 - 2 Southport FC
Rangers played a fast flowing passing game today which left the
visitors frustrated and produce some physical challenges at times.
At half time Rangers were 5 -1 up, with goals from Paul Bennett,
Danny Hastings, Mike Forsyth, Dale Slater and James Edgar. Southport
did get one goal back from a long throw into the box which was
headed in.
2nd half was much the
same, sweeping moves by Rangers produced more goals as Paul Bennett
completed a Hat trick and Ben Maddocks got a brace. At times
Southport did threaten but stand in Keeper Josh Seddon produced
several saves to keep the visitors out until late on. MOM :
Paul Bennett.
