Theatre of the Mind double act will attempt to predict future
headlines of Champion newspaper & others!
MATT Colman is
a magician and mind reader from Southport, Merseyside. At 19 he’s
already an accomplished comedian, magician, writer, and psychic, and
is one half of the psychic show:- “Theatre of the Mind”.
Recognised as one of the country’s finest young talents in the field
of magic and paranormal by his magic peers, he developed a passion
for magic at the age of 5 when he received a magic set for his
birthday. His love for magic grew stronger, and at the age of 9 he
was allowed entrance in to Merseyside Junior Magic Circle, the
prestigious home of young magical talent, as the youngest ever
member to pass the entrance exam and audition. He continued
practising, learning and performing, and by the age of 12 he was
performing at events all over Southport; birthday parties, weddings
and family parties of all kinds. By 14 he was performing weekly,
holding a residency at a local hotel. He was then admitted as the
youngest ever member of Liverpool Magic circle. At 16 he moved to
Barcelona for a season, to perform his magic and comedy at a magic
bar, once again the youngest magician ever to hold the position. For
7 months he performed twice nightly, further perfecting his magic
and sharpening his quick wit. He has since toured all over Europe
performing and lecturing in his unique style of entertainment.
In late 2006 Matt developed insomnia, and after nearly a week with
little or no sleep he started hallucinating. Amongst the strange
mind tricks the brain develops from lack of sleep, he realised he
was achieving a kind of deja-vu state, He kept imagining
conversations with friends and later on they would take place,
exactly as he had imagined. The situation became stranger and
stranger. In early 2007 he had a recurring vision of winning a small
fortune on a fruit machine, which was odd because he had never
played a fruit machine in his life. In the vision he entered an
amusement arcade and then after 3 spins the machine hit the jackpot
and poured out a seemingly endless amount of £1 coins. One day Matt
entered the arcade he had seen in the vision and played the machine
three times, but the machine didn’t pay out. He tried again. Two
failures, and when he pushed the button once more it hit the
jackpot. As Matt says it could have been beginner’s luck, but it was
a very strange coincidence. Matt still suffers from insomnia as does
Peter his co-star, and spends most of his time awake learning and
developing his psychological skills, testing them to their limits.
At 18 years old Matt was offered the position of Head Magician at a
new magic bar in Bristol. He quickly gave the bar a huge reputation
for great magic, but the bar didn’t give the freedom he required for
his demonstrations and he left, giving the job to his friend, local
magician Kieron Johnson. Matt continued performing at corporate
parties, weddings and comedy clubs.
The other half of the act is Peter Carroll, aged 25. He hails from
Cork in Ireland, and is considered the greatest mind reader in
Ireland. He has worked in a variety of settings, from storming
comedy clubs across Ireland to 5 star hotels in Mauritius, and he
has entertained a wide mix of people including Public Ministers and
local dignitaries, he’s worked at colleges, schools, and packed out
theatres all over the world.. He is a regular headliner in the
nationally renowned comedy club 'City Limits'. His
love of stand up comedy drew him into the business, his idols
including everyone from the greats like Bill Cosby, and Steve Martin
to the newer breed of performer. His love of mind-reading evolved
over a period of time as a result of studying text from past heroes
such as the legendary Max Malini to the English mind Illusionist
Tony Corrinda. He is an expert on body language and psychology. |
In mid 2007 Matt held
3 auditions In England and Ireland looking for a partner for his
act. It was when he was in Cork he heard about the up and coming
mind reader Peter Carroll who was developing a huge following. Like
most auditions the applicants were a mixture, mostly average to very
poor and including an a to z of very strange people, from dancing
around shouting about the future, to magicians with cheap parlour
tricks ,and even people that claimed to talk with animals “The
auditions were very bizarre, but very funny!"
"Peter Carroll
never attended the auditions, but I was eager to meet him. I found
out he was working in a comedy club a week later. His act blew me
away, doing things I’ve never seen or thought of myself. We had a
mutual love for the paranormal, psychic entertainment and first and
foremost stand up comedy, and we immediately hit it off and struck
up a fantastic friendship. We wrote a new show and where began
really testing our skills of thought transference, nlp, psychology,
body language, magic and suggestion. With suitable participants ‘on
the same brain wave-length’ so to speak, we can hear what some
people are thinking like an auditory hallucination, it’s very weird
but delightfully interesting! " said Matt Colman.
Peter and Matt are founding members of M.P E (Mind and Paranormal
Entertainers) the underground group for the foremost talent across
the world. They are professional sceptics and do not believe in
fortune tellers, mediums, most other mind readers and Santa. What
they do is unique and real, nobody else does what they can do. In
their latest show they will try to contact the dead – in a manner
unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. This is not your average
séance: they will try to contact the spirit world via a very ancient
and dangerous technique that uses water as a medium. The show at The
Latin Lounge is a taste of things to come, including a big show at
Southport Arts Centre in later on this year which is part of a
European tour moving to mainland UK from Ireland with this brand new
show. After the UK the duo are travelling to Spain by popular demand
for 6 months.
They have been working on a skill used by mediums and mind readers
called remote viewing, which is the ability of a person to gather
information on a remote target, which is hidden from the physical
perception of the viewer. Typically this is achieved in real time;
we are practitioners of future remote viewing. Last year they
correctly predicted the headlines of the Irish Star. Only a very few
people in the world can do this. They are going to try once again to
achieve future remote viewing.
“We will
envision the newspaper with the date on it in the future and piece
by piece construct the headlines until we have possible headlines,
it should work - it might not. But we are confident!”
Says Matt.
The predictions will be sealed into a box and signed, the person
will swear not to tamper with the box once it is in their
possession, and also make sure nobody can get to it, especially Matt
and Peter.
The results of the predictions will be the finale for their two man
stage show “Theatre of the Mind” at The Latin Lounge
on Post Office Avenue in Southport on Sat 5th April, at 7.30.
Tickets are available
at the Latin Lounge priced at £20, which includes a buffet and the
show. Limited
