Maritime &
Coastguard Centre 24HR Strike Action
ON 6 March
2008 the PSC and Prspect Union members took to the picket lines at
Maritime and Coastguard centres through out the UK. This strike
action was the first time in the history of the Maritime and
Coastguard Agency (MCA) and was taken over a in a dispute about
levels of pay. One member said:- "This is not a step which we
have taken lightly and this was a last resort. Strike action
illustrates the depth of anger amongst staff who provide vital
emergency service for the UK. The government must take notice! In
MCA pay levels are so low that Watch Assistants have needed a
special pay rise to bring them up to the level of the national
minimum wage."
