Southport Wine Shops Sought for Top National Award!
THE International Wine and Spirit
Competition is seeking the very best wine shops to be judged in a
national competition for the award; UK Wine Merchant 2008.
Said Grant Collier Deputy Director of the competition:- "The
International Wine and Spirit Competition is primarily about
identifying the best wines and spirits from around the world as an

an ever increasing role for independent wine merchants to provide
quality advice and service to an increasingly sophisticated UK wine
consumer.
We are looking for nominations from Southport residents for
independent wine shops not just offering a good service, but also
a quality range of stock and information available at point of
purchase."
Anyone wanting to nominate their local Wine shop should
email or write to IWSC, Building 17 Dunsfold
Park, Cranleigh GU6 8TB. In addition All persons making nominations
will be entered into a draw to win a case of award winning wines.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO
SUPPORT SERVICES FOR FAMILIES, SAYS LOCAL FAMILY SUPPORT CHARITY
- HOME-START Knowsley
has just run a successful training programme but still needs
more volunteers. The next training programme is due to start
in May and we would like to encourage people from the local
community to get involved.
Scheme Manager Gillian McKinnon who leads a team of 4 staff
and 36 volunteers at the Huyton based charity located in
Rupert Road, is launching an appeal and says she must
recruit at least 10 more volunteers to continue to provide
help and information to local people. All we ask is for a
minimum of 3 hours commitment per week. We provide all out
of pocket expenses.
“Our work is very important, so we want to get more people
involved at Home-Start Knowsley. Since we opened, our staff
and volunteers have helped hundreds of families cope with
the stresses a young family can bring.” said Gillian
McKinnon, Scheme Manager.
Volunteers offer emotional support, information and
practical help to all Families with children under the age
of 5 in the Knowsley area. Nationally, Home-Start’s local
branches in England and Wales offer free and confidential
services to around 33,000 families and 70,000 children every
year.
“Training is provided and the work is very varied, rewarding
and sometimes stressful, so we want to hear from people who
are non-judgmental, patient and understanding. We’re also
very keen to hear from young people who would like to join
the team and bring alternative skills like IT support, PR,
leaflet design or putting together our monthly newsletter”
says Gillian McKinnon, Scheme Manager.
Anyone interested in volunteering for Home-Start Knowsley is
asked to call Tracey Whistlecraft on 0151 480 3910 or
email him for more
information.
