Design Show Liverpool
IN what has
become, over recent years, a run-down part of Liverpool's City
Center, there is a hidden gem, the new Contemporary Urban Centre
venue. The venue is a fantastically converted warehouse and
its first major event was the Design Show Liverpool that took up
several floors of the building. The event opened on
Wednesday, 18 June 2008 and ran until 22 June 2008. This is a
very important event in the international design calendar and a
prestigious one for Liverpool, so it was also fitting the launch of
this yearly event is in Liverpool's European Capital Of Culture
Year. Showcasing at the event were, trade buyers and
collectors and the very best of product design, cutting-edge
technology and stylish living. This was a truly unique opportunity
for the public to browse and buy from over 150 selected designers,
innovative work, commission unique pieces for indoors and outdoors.
All the exhibitors represented the best in regional, national and
international design and contemporary fashion. Visitors to the show
were able to see a huge range of functional items with a twist, from
furniture, glass, ceramics, lighting and eco-design to garden
products, clothing, jewellery and fashion accessories. On offer were
fashion shows, workshops and product presentations. Not forgetting
an interactive play area where parents and children enjoyed
themselves in a stimulating and safe environment. At the launch
event, on Wednesday night, style supremo Wayne Hemingway MBE
presented The Designers of the Future Awards, sponsored by Crown and
DuPont Corian, aimed at young designers aged 14 to 16 years, with
imagination and passion. The over all winner of the overall Schools
And Students Prize at Design Show Liverpool was Lauren Langley from
Belvedere Academy for the Chesteazze. He also presented awards to
university students. This event is one to keep any eye on and
well worth a visit next year!
