The
2008 Southport Champion Charity Carnival

THIS year's
Southport Champion Charity Carnival, held on Saturday, 28 June 2008
was, yet again, a huge success, despite the threat of rain. The
parade stretched out, at one point taking up the whole of Lord
Street, making it a fantastic sight for locals and tourists alike.
Leading this very long line of Carnival floats, bands and dancers
was a Norwegian school band, who came all the way from a small town
of Molde, Norway. That was not the only European influence in this
year's parade, as the Latin Lounge put on a Spanish style float.
Also, a large float by one of the Church groups had a distinctive
European flavour, mainly thanks to Liverpool's Capital of Culture
influence. One does think, however, that the European Cup might have
played a part in some of the floats flying European Flags. Proving a
big hit also, as the parade snaked its way through the town centre,
was a local martial arts group, who performed martial arts, jumping
over one another and smashing wooden blocks as they went along!
Congratulations and well done to the Champion newspaper and to all
the others involved, for putting on such a fantastic event.
