1st day of practise at
British Open
Report Sally Devine and Pictures
by Patrick Trollope
BLUE skies and sunshine were the
order of the day for the 1st day of practice at the Open Golf at
Royal Birkdale. However the forecast for the championship itself is
for rain and high winds.
Nick Dougherty from Liverpool was one of
the 1st on the course hoping to make the cut for the final days.
A note for spectators, mobile phones are
not allowed anywhere on the course and will be confiscated at the
entrance. Security is tight and everyone is being subject scanning
and bag searches.
The greens are in superb condition for the cream of the golfing
world and hopefully the British contingent will do as well this week
although Sergia Garcia from Spain and Phil Mickelson, United States,
remain the favourites to lift the Claret jug.
