MECCA BINGO STAGES BIGGEST EVER CHARITY EVENT
MECCA Bingo in
Southport is joining forces with its 101 fellow clubs throughout the
UK on 8 August 08 to stage their biggest ever single day’s fundraising
event in support of national children’s mobility charity partner, Whizz-Kidz.
Mecca has pledged to raise a minimum of £250,000 for Whizz-Kidz in
2008, through its clubs and on-line bingo business, with each club
setting itself a cash target. To date, more than £80,000 has
been raised nationally so, now with the campaign in full swing, all
102 clubs will be holding a special fundraising day to further raise
the profile of Whizz-Kidz and to give the partnership a fresh
impetus.
Each club will be playing Shea’s Spaceship, a touching and
heart-warming DVD produced by Whizz-Kidz and featuring a real-life
story of little Shea, whose world has been changed immeasurably for
good since he got access to specialist mobility equipment that lets
him lead an active life. There will also be a series of
special fund-raising events in every club throughout the day and
each club will announce how much it has raised so far.
Jo Dale, general manager of Mecca Southport, said:- “Our
customers and staff have already responded magnificently to the
challenge of raising money for this fantastic children’s charity and
we are all committed to smashing our target by the end of the year.
This special day will really set us up for the next five months and
we’re all really looking forward to it”.
Whizz-Kidz is the national children’s mobility charity committed to
giving disabled children the independence they deserve – at home, at
play and at school. Mecca Bingo has chosen Whizz-Kidz as its
nominated charity for 2008 and, as a part of the national 'Mecca
Wheel Difference' campaign, the Southport club will be holding a
number of events for members and staff alike to help raise money for
the charity.
Ruth Owen, Chief Executive of Whizz-Kidz, added:- “The charity
is virtually 100% reliant on voluntary funds so events like this are
really important. With around 70,000 kids nationally in need of
vital mobility equipment, everyone will know someone in their
community or family that could benefit from our work”
