LIVERPOOL ONE’S SUMMER OF FUN – EVERYTHING YOU LOVE IN ONE!
THIS summer Liverpool ONE is the
place to be and be seen. With something to offer all the family, the
£1bn development is a haven for retail therapy with the biggest and
best brands! To celebrate its first summer, Liverpool ONE has
planned a full schedule of family entertainment throughout the
school holidays. Liverpool ONE is holding a 'Big Kids
Weekend', from Thursday, 7 August 2008 to Sunday August 10, so don’t
forget to bring the children…and those of you who are just young at
heart will love the entertainment too!
To coincide with the Imagine Children’s Festival taking place in and
around St George’s Hall, Liverpool ONE will be hosting its very own
Big Kids Weekend with face painters, balloon modellers, circus
workshops and much more. Entertainers will be circulating the
streets of Liverpool ONE to amaze and delight our youngest visitors.
Families parking in the Strand Street car park can make the trip
even easier by parking on level 3 and taking advantage of the free
pushchair hire.
Every week right up to 31 August 2008, Liverpool ONE offers 'Late Night
Wednesday’s' from 5pm when late night shoppers have a rio
reason to put a catchy rhythm in their step as 'Batala' Liverpool
the community samba band perform live for the crowds. In addition,
each weekend the whole family can come and see our fabulous stilt
walkers and ambient acts including Calvos Dos, an amazing contact
juggling duo, the surreal Helter Skelter witches, giant space cadets
and many other colourful characters.
Batala Liverpool, a Brazilian style percussion band, are
entertaining after work Wednesday shoppers with their distinctive
brand of samba beat music and dance, giving warm summer nights in
the city a lively Latin flavour. Every Wednesday Batala will
be performing on the 'Sugar House' steps outside John Lewis in
the heart of Liverpool ONE. The free show is from 5pm and a set of
songs will be played to get you in the carnival mood!
Says Joanne Jennings, Chief Executive of Liverpool ONE:- “We
feel it is really important to go the extra mile, and offer visitors
who come from far and wide some real entertainment. The school
holidays cover the entire summer and children can get fidgety after
a long day of shopping with mum and dad, so we have invited some
fabulous acts to perform across the summer months. There is
something for all the family and we are confident that young and old
will love the ever changing event line-up.”

DOCTORS URGED TO PROMOTE HEALTHY EATING MESSAGE
ALMOST half of
adults in the north-west eat less than the recommended 2 portions of
seafood a week, according to new research. The findings also reveal
that GPs and health centres could do more to ensure that the public
better understands the Food Standards Agency’s advice regarding
seafood.
The survey, commissioned by Seafish, the Sea Fish Industry
Authority, shows that a staggering 81% of adults revealed they would
try to eat 2 portions of seafood a week if their doctor recommended
it. Alarmingly 95% said their GP had never advised eating seafood to
improve heart-health or omega-3 levels.
Independent nutritionist, Juliette Kellow said:- “Fish and
shellfish are some of the healthiest foods available. They are an
excellent source of protein and provide a variety of different
vitamins and minerals. Oil-rich seafood is also the best natural
source of long-chain omega 3 fatty acids, which are proven to help
maintain heart health. That’s why the Food Standards Agency
recommends eating at least 2 portions a week, one of which should be
oil-rich.”
The research was conducted as part of a healthy eating campaign from
Seafish to highlight the benefits of fish and shellfish and
encourage people to eat more sustainably sourced seafood every week.
As part of this campaign, leaflets and posters are being sent to
health centres around the UK providing information on why people
should eat two portions of seafood a week.
Dr Jon Harman, development director at Seafish, said:-
“Seafood is an important part of a healthy balanced diet and it’s
concerning that health practitioners are not recommending it more
often to patients to improve their general health, as well as to
reduce the risk of serious long-term illnesses caused by a lack of
long-chain omega 3 fatty acids. Seafood Fortnight takes place
next month and its ‘2 a week’ theme will further help to raise
awareness of the government’s recommendation. Seafish encourages
businesses all around the country to get involved, reminding
consumers that eating two portions of sustainable sourced seafood a
week can be of great benefit to their health.”
